Not ironic; all part of The Plan. Brexit was to weaken the EU; Dump was to weaken NATO. The Right across the world are the useful idiots of the dictators.

Biden briefed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on the evolving situation in Ukraine during a phone call Thursday afternoon.

McConnell described it as "a briefing from the president for the four of us on the events of today and the way forward" but declined to share further details. He noted that he urged the president, both publicly and privately, to "ratchet up the sanctions."

Saw a report from a twitter account that basically takes headlines off a bloomberg terminal that said Germany now considering SWIFT ban for russia. Same account also said China was restricting financing for Russian commodities. So I have no idea if these are real but it sounds like the account definitely has a terminal.

I've seen a couple other news accounts posting that the german finance minister announced they're open to it. Which probably means, "Sure, but we're gonna need help." Which is fair.

Edit: Seems like a more thorough translation is "We're debating the consequences (and likely how to mitigate them) but we're not opposed to kicking them off SWIFT."

Kicking them out of SWIFT is going to have some pretty severe consequences to most Western Economies. We will feel the pinch here for sure. This has to be a killshot because if not it could get ugly.

As for NATO...if more nations join Vlad will take it as an act of aggression and declare war. It is a bad strategic move unless Vlad shows he has plans that go beyond Ukraine.

fuck Putin. Any country that wants to join NATO should -- it's a defensive pact, so it's not "aggression against Russia".

I have a friend from Bulgaria, and we've been talking about taking another trip over this summer (depending on the Covid situation) with side trips to Romania, Greece, and Turkey -- and I was trying to convince him that we should take a trip to Ukraine for a couple days and visit Chernobyl. The whole trip is definitely off the table now -- I don't think I want to go anywhere near that part of the world right now (even though Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Greece are NATO and presumably safe from Russian invasion)

Going back a few pages, I'd like to revisit the India idea... Y'all are more educated on these kinds of matters so feel free to correct things as needed:

Could this be the thing that awakes India as a "Sleeping Giant" so to speak.

If they are truly tied to Russia financially, could the be dragged into this? China has the power to remain financially independent. But can India really do that?

With over a billion people themselves, it seems as if they are gonna be asked to step into the ring with the big boys whether they like it or not here....

The truth doesn't matter anymore. One of Putin's/Faux's BS reasons for all of this was how NATO was trying to reshape Europe...this adds to the narrative. (even though, again, it is complete bull)

This "War" isn't going how he planned, make him stew in it.
