Grand Unified Election Thread 2: What is the difference between Biden and Dump?

His side benefits from it, so why would Hovey want any of it changed?

So, what exactly is the "it" that my "side" is benefiting from here?

It's kind of funny. Not quite four years ago now you guys were all running around shouting how we were about to see the end of democracy. It's over. The institutions would have no chance of defending us. Blah, blah, blah. I called horsehockey.

So now here we are four years later. The autocratic, fascist, nazi, dictator got voted out. Really? I didn't know autocratic, fascist, nazi, dictatorships ended that way, but whatever.

Our free press was going to be destroyed, yet has emerged stronger than ever. Our court system has been destroyed or completely politicized, yet when called upon to rule on the most political of issues (the election), has decided again and again in favor of the rule of law, reasoned decisions that pretty much everyone agrees on.

Our right to vote was to be taken from us, suppressed by destruction of the postal service or removal of polling stations, etc..., yet more people than ever cast ballots.

And in two months, the man all of you said would never leave office except at the end of a rifle barrel, will walk out of the White House, probably flipping us off as he goes, on to whatever half-baked reality tv show he can sucker someone into creating for him.

Yet, you guys, always with the need to find something to fret over, are all bitter that he won't publicly concede, or that he phones some low level bureaucrat somewhere with the insane idea that if he can just get her to agree with him, the election can go his way.

Why is it that when Trump says he's going to build a wall on the Mexican border, or reform the health care system, or some other such nonsense, you immediately (and correctly) conclude he's full of shiat, but when he says he's going to change the outcome in Michigan you all claim to believe he's going to be able to do that.

I really could care a less what Trump does these last few months. It's like watching a chicken that's just had it's head cut off. It's making a mess, and causing a commotion, but it'll soon be over and forgotten.

And you were wrong. All that supposed crowing you pooh-poohed is happening right before your eyes and you're too ignorant to see or too cowardly to call it out - either way it makes you complicit. Trump is trying to steal the election. We have seen threats, lies, intimidation before/after the election, call outs to thugs, lying with every press conference and tweet, and nary but a few Republicans have stood up and said "enough". Before that Trump shat on the Constitution countless ways the previous 4 years and no one is getting in his way.

Democracy may not be over, but we don't have to have become an actual fascist state to recognize it's been shot to hell and on life support. You're trying to dismiss the opposition as emotional basket cases is just gross. You're intelligent enough to see it for what it is and yet continue to choose to look the other way. That a sane adult laughs in the face of what this President has done and is trying to do there really is nothing left but contempt. In that regard respectfully gfy.

It will not be soon forgotten. He's done serious damage. It will take decades to undo what he has done. Maybe longer.

Do you care they’re telling people to ignore distancing guidelines at the worst time of the pandemic? Do you care they’re purposefully hampering the transition process which will hinder Biden’s ability to govern in January? Do you care they lied and continue to lie about missing families at the border? Do you care about the forced hysterectomies in the immigrant camps? Do you care that he cost thousands of Americans’ lives downplaying the virus for a few good days on the stock market in March?

Or do you just care that some people think a portion of the police budget should go to social services?

WAKE UP. Yesterday's update said that 75% of self-described "Republicans" in the country (3 of every 4, for you Northern students), including the president of the United States are now OPPOSED to free and fair elections if abolishing the vote will keep the Trumps in power. What has already happened was unimaginable even in the worst-case imaginings of Bernie Sanders, four years ago. Our country is in tatters and about to fall into open civil war. Take a look at our "Department of Defense." It's now being run by blind loyalists without a glance at our former constitution, and this happened in a couple of weeks. Every federal judge appointed in the last four years (and there are hundreds) have sworn their lives to worship the fake Trump god without any regard to truth, justice, or the former US Constitution.
If there are still smart people of good will going along with this bizarre charade to keep Trump on the throne, and we know there are, the United States no longer exists as the country we all thought we knew up to this point. What our nation will be in the future, is being formed RIGHT NOW by our thoroughly corrupted institutions and mobs on the streets waving AR-15s and rebel flags. I'm not exaggerating. I talked to one of these guys last week and he said, "of course it was loaded. What if a liberal wanted to start something?"
WAKE UP. SPEAK OUT. Things are NOT FINE. The only chance we have to turn this back, is to stand up for the truth.

Beautifully said.

The fact that Trump was too incompetent to succeed in implementing his racist, fascist dreams makes it okay?

Follow up: So you'd be totally fine with a President AOC someday moving us *toward* a socialist state, so long as she doesn't succeed in getting us all the way there?

AOC can yell from the top of her lungs (or tweet at 3 a.m. every morning) all she wants. If, like Trump, she's too incompetent to accomplish any of those things she says she's going to do, I literally don't care what she's yelling (or tweeting) about. It's just noise. That's what Trump was, is and always will be. Noise.

Nice dodge. I wasn't asking about talk. I was asking about action.

You're asking us not to care that Trump moved us toward fascism.

I'm asking if you would care if President AOC moved us toward socialism.

This is a good string of tweets. Starting off:

No more happy talk about the "uniquely American transition of power." Trump presidency and this post-election period confirm that the US is *less* committed to democratic norms - and has *weaker* institutional safeguards for democracy - than peer wealthy democracies.

Just being playful - nothing serious:

@NicoleGoodkind · 1h
This is Trump's argument: George Soros, Biden, the Clinton Foundation & the antifa worked with the Venezuelan government to rig the election by making big Dem cities vote for the Democratic candidate. But they also let Republicans win Senate, Congressional and local races.

@NicoleGoodkind · 1h
The most insane thing is that this an accurate description of what Trump's personal lawyers are telling the American people uninterrupted on Fox News and that very few GOP Senators or Congressman will refute these claims in any way.

And again our leaders are taking the queues from conservative voters that refuse to call this out.

Maggie Haberman
Some Trump advisers - none of whom are speaking publicly - are saying this press conference and what Giuliani is doing is dangerous. They’re waiting for the president to recognize that but he is not so far.

Add Wisconsin to the list of states Biden won that the process for overturning the will of the voters is in its incipient stages.

At one point, Republican Commissioner Dean Knudson suggested all the absentee ballots requested through the state’s online portal were invalid because of the way the system logs those requests.

That is my vote Dean Knudson is talking about. My legally obtained, legally and properly filled out, and legally and properly delivered to my polling place ballot. My voice. If the government will not accept my legal vote I have no voice. Remember as the riots were unfolding this summer after George Floyd was murdered by cops and those of us who understood WHY they were happening recalled the words of Martin Luther King Jr, that riots were the voice of the unheard? I dare people like Dean Knudson to silence the voice I made heard by voting.

You're asking us not to care that Trump moved us toward fascism.

I'm asking if you would care if President AOC moved us toward socialism.

Yeah, exactly, you talked about action, when all Trump did is talk.

You guys spent four years talking about the fascist, autocratic dictatorship that we had installed, and I let you do it. I knew it wasn't true, that it was just a group bloviating because they were astounded Clinton lost, and that she'd lose to some blowhard like Trump.

You can sit here and claim that Trump turned us towards fascism. You claiming it doesn't make it true.

Would Trump have like to have been an authoritarian, fascist dictator? No doubt. Was there any chance of him pulling it off? No chance.

I think you're wrong. In fact, I think an argument can even be made that having had to live through a Trump presidency has actually in many ways strengthened the country, and democracy in it. More people have become engaged in the political process. A broader cross-section of races, gender preferences, religions have gotten involved and have run for (and been elected to) office, all in response to Trump. The news media has expanded into different mediums, and has been much less likely to accept the "official" explanation of things, much more likely to be openly critical or even contemptuous.

We aren't any closer to an authoritarian, fascist dictatorship today than we were four years ago, and candidly it would be even harder to establish one now than it ever was before, largely due to the response to the Trump presidency.
