Your program's Mount Rushmore

Re: Your program's Mount Rushmore

Doesn't Mal Lyles hold the unique distinction of being an obvious selection for two schools?

Re: Your program's Mount Rushmore

I'd rather we keep the list to 10 or less. I loved Crowley but wouldn't take him over at least 4 others. Tim Harrer had great stats but what % of average fans knew his name before Miracle came out? A. Broten should have got the Hobey but his brother brings the cache. Butsy I'm pretty ok with though getting consideration...

I think I would take the first four nominated too, but given people kept adding, I thought others should be mentioned.

How about "Goldie" himself. (I am blanking on his name now.) But he could energize a crowd and get opposing sides of the arena chanting, alternating between "Gumbie" and "Pokie" (a la "tastes great/less filling"). Or countless other creative cheers.

Or how about the "NE" section?

And anyone who ever listened to a Gopher game on the radio during his era knew the call " SCORING for MINNESOTA, TIM HHHHHHHHHHHAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRR!" (For awhile I thought he had like 34 syllables in his name.)

Re: Your program's Mount Rushmore

As others who follow Wisconsin have stated, Badger Bob, Mark Johnson, and Mike Eaves are locks.

In regards to the fourth spot, while I love what Bill Howard did as a coach I have a tough time putting the goalie coach on the Mount Rushmore of your school (although if any goalie coach in the nation made it, it would be Bill Howard).

From there, who do you pick? It's almost impossible to decide between guys like Chris Chelios, Mike Richter, Jim Carey, Dany Heatley, Gary Suter, Bob Suter, Ryan Suter, Curtis Joseph, Brian Engblom, Brian Rafalski, Tony Granato, Steven Reinprecht, Scott Mellanby, Theran Welsh, and Craig Norwich.

In the end...it's gotta be Chelios right?

The discussion for Wisconsin is very interesting, since you have had both historic coaches and big time players. How about looking at the identities if the 4 dead white guys in South Dakota: Washington is most known as our founder, militarily and as first president; Lincoln led the country through its most difficult time; Jefferson would probably be most known for his intellectual contribution to our guiding principles; and T Roosevelt symbolizes the fighting and independent spirit.

So if you have to narrow it down to 4 and try to stay true to what those four stood for, does that help?

And what the f!!!! is this, hockey or civics class?!!

Re: Your program's Mount Rushmore

Michigan- Red Berenson, Vic Heyliger, Brendan Morrison and Marty Turco.

That's very close to what I had: Vic Heyliger, Red Berenson, Wally Grant, Brendan Morrison

The first two are not debatable--they were both two-time all-americans as players and winners of multiple national championships as coaches. For the other two, I wanted a player from each of Michigan's two best decades--one from 1947-1957 and one from 1991-2001. Morrison is obvious and Wally Grant was probably our best player from the earlier era. Also acceptable would have been Bill MacFarland or Willard Ikola. Al Renfrew is the only person to win national championships at Michigan as a player and as a coach, but Michigan's performance from the mid '60s to the mid '70s pretty much eliminates him, unfortunately.

Re: Your program's Mount Rushmore

Here is what has been nominated so far:

North Dakota: Ben Cherski, Greg Johnson, Jeff Panzer, Dean Blais, Gino Gasparini, Tony Hrkac, Ralph Engelstad, Ryan Duncan, Zach Parise, Matt Greene, Jonathan Toews, Karl Goehring, Eddie Belfour, Jon Casey

A lot of great players in that list but if you consider lifetime contribution to the sport or to the program then the most obvious choices are:

Ralph Engelstad
Gino Gasparini
Dean Blais
Dave Tippett

I'm surprised Fido Purpur hasn't gotten a nom. He's like Mariucci and Bob Johnson.

Re: Your program's Mount Rushmore

My four for Maine would be Paul Kariya, Howard, Montgomery, and Walsh.

But another person I think that at least deserves a nomination is Gustav Nyquist.

[sarcasm] And Tim Whitehead of course [end sarcasm] (the only nomination he gets is for the gum chewing mt. rushmore!)

So... Adam Burish it is! (Pictured with one of your nominees?)

Re: Your program's Mount Rushmore

I'm sorry your program has never made it to the top.

But never give up. Never, EVER give up!!

A Lake State fan is talking smack to a Wisconsin fan about their program's relative success? OK then...

Re: Your program's Mount Rushmore

I will add Tyler Euverman, Dave Burkholder, Peter Bournazakis, Steve Toll, and Jerry Galway to RIT's list of nominees.

Powers &8^]

None of them played in the DI era

Euverman isn't even the best DIII goalie I ever saw - that belongs to Jamie Morris who took RIT to 1 goal of an NCAA title, and took the Tigers to a second DIII Frozen Four. I would take him easily over Euverman.
Pete B was good - not sure I would rank him in the top 4 ever for RIT.
Toll was the best player I ever saw.
Galway certainly would rank on the list if I included DIII players.
