I question that poll because in the present American political climate of "cancel culture", no one with a career to risk losing wants to self-identify as a racist. Or they're like, "I'm not a bigot, I'd be happy to have a black neighbor - if he's a married, Christian doctor or lawyer." Which is just a less overt form of "darky needs to act more like us white folk" racism.

That link goes well past a poll and I doubt anyone had their name tied to the poll anyway. There has been no shortage of blatant racist activity the past 3.5 years in the US and it's been exposed more than any time in recent memory. The orcs are no longer in hiding despite social media exposing them a damn near daily basis. It hasn't stopped cops from mistreating minorities including murdering them. The band-aid is off.

But I've seen, heard, read and experienced the racism outside the U.S. in my past 30-years of traveling and living abroad enough to without any doubt believe racism and inequality is just as if not worse in countries near and far.

That is not be arguing things are hunky dorey though. The U.S. must be better. But it's not poster-child so many in the U.S. want to brand it as. Focus initiatives and energy discussing how to make it better and not, "WE"RE THE WORST!!".

You've made those observations before, Slap, and they make sense. Racism is a virulent form of tribalism, an evolutionary survival trait which no longer benefits us but which we still tend to share, whichever herd we are in. Your point makes the case for fighting intolerance of all kinds even more compelling.
 
So, I joined reddit 2 months ago. Since then I have joined and been almost immediately permabanned by 5 different Leftist subs (r/socialism, r/cpusa, r/communism, r/askphilosophy, r/alltheleft) for, among other things, pointing out the PRC commits human rights abuses and that Russia, in 2021, is not a socialist country.

I'm not sure the Far Left in this country is serious.
 
Red rose people are the same as red hat people. Ideologically they differ. But the means, the insistence on stupidity and groupthink, adherence to the all powerful leader.

Well that is really, really, really depressing. How can you believe in a movement for human flourishing and universal justice and then boot out everybody who disagrees with one word of dogma?

I get the Far Right -- they are authoritarian to the core, it's what they breath and live. They celebrate intolerance. But FFS, the entire point of the Left is inclusion.

I think it's what jerphisch is getting at. DOn't take what the people running the subs say. They rose to the top the same way idiots like Trump did. Heavy-handed fealty at the core.

Unless you called someone a c*t or acted like Flag did around here. Then yeah, i get it. Reddit can be a little snowflakey.

wrt the actual subs, it doesn't surprise me in the least. THe people who hang out in the socialism and CPUSA subs are almost certainly Putin sycophants and almost certainly say crap like "US MEDIA IS ALL PROPAGANDA". They're lazy and will never offer any proof of this. No different than "((The Media))" on the right.

The askphilosophy I'm less confident about what could get you banned from there....
 
I would imagine the CPUSA sub is just a handful of tankies making lists of people they plan to send the wall (hint: everyone on this board qualifies) when the glorious Marxist-Leninist revolution comes to America.
 
reddit should be used for things like: ITIFU did I?; TIL; AITA?; porn; RoastMe; and of course cute animal videos. After that, you're done for the day. And yes Kep, you must look up what those things are, no help from me.
