Re: Your Political Stance - 2014 Edition

Hardcore socialist (becoming a lot more extreme), social liberal (becoming more extreme), leaning towards pacifism, with a dash of anarchism (diminishing every year).

Code:
[b] Socialist Anarchist Pacifist Social Liberal[/b]
2012 4.66 3.36 -5.39 -6.44
2014 6.02 3.64 [B]-7.15[/B] -6.80
2017 6.31 [B]5.40[/B] -5.89 -8.07
2019 7.33 4.21 -5.91 -7.21
2020 [B]9.30[/B] 3.08 -5.45 [B] -8.21[/B]

It's a fair cop.

Re: Your Political Stance - 2014 Edition

A comparison of the self-reported results. I may have made some sign errors so please check yours.

First chart: same scale as the website. The term to the left of the slash is positive number, to the right negative. Hence, NeoCon/NonInt means a positive number is towards Neo-Conservativism, negative towards Non-Interventionist. The website slashed all the terms as Rightish/Leftish.

Code:
[B]2020 Right/Left Auth/Libert	NeoCon/NonInt Con/Lib[/B]
Kepler -9.30 -3.08 -5.45 -8.21
dxmnkd -5.57 -5.90 -5.28 -8.90
psych -8.42 -4.89 -7.54 -9.87
busterman62 0.46 -1.22 -0.96 -2.16
SonofSouthie -6.64 -2.87 -4.38 -6.97
cf[Authentic] -5.76 -0.83
FadeToBlack&Gold	-4.99 -0.20

Second chart: I normalized on a scale of 100 against the positive term. Hence, my "4" for Right (Economic) is 4%, where 0% would be Perfect Socialist, 50% Neutral, and 100% Perfect Laissez Faire.

Code:
[B]Norm 2020 Right Authoritarian Neo-Con Conserv[/B]
Kepler [B][COLOR="#0000FF"]4[/COLOR][/B] 35 23 9
dxmnkd 22 [B][COLOR="#0000FF"]21[/COLOR][/B] 24 6
psych 8 26 [B][COLOR="#0000FF"]12[/COLOR][/B] [B][COLOR="#0000FF"]1[/COLOR][/B]
busterman62 [B][COLOR="#FF0000"]52[/COLOR][/B] 44 [B][COLOR="#ff0000"]45[/COLOR][/B] [B][COLOR="#FF0000"]39[/COLOR][/B]
SonofSouthie 17 36 28 15
cf[Authentic] 21 46
FadeToBlack&Gold	25 [B][COLOR="#FF0000"]49[/COLOR][/B]

mean 21 36 26 14

I've sent to a bunch of friends and will add their results (masked with names from the 1973 Mets) to add to the data set, so if you know anybody please do the same. Obviously, real data only.

Thinking about it, this could be a good measure of our bubbles. If the mean of my friends under Right (Market) is 2, welp, that tells me something. :)

Left 6.06, libertarian 1.49, -4.77 foreign policy, -7.03 culture.

I hate these things though because somewhere around half the questions I wanted to say "it depends."

It’s not perfect but the questions have more or less stayed consistent and it’s interesting to see the trends over the years. Not a lot of quizzes give you that somewhat consistent barometer.

This is interesting. I might have to do this.

I handle "it depends" by dialing the intensity down (even though sometimes I am balancing opposing situations which I still have strong feelings about).

I know what you mean but this one stacks up pretty well against most of the quizzes out there.

The biggest move was really from 2009-2017 when I realized how ashamed I was to call myself a Republican and that my views no longer matched what I had grown up believing.

It's been a pretty big 180 and I'm a registered Democrat for the first time in my life.

Moving to Germany accounts for the additional swing over the last year, but it had already moved some in 2018 when I first got here.

Re: Your Political Stance - 2014 Edition

Stories like that cheer me up. It's hard to admit a mistake and reverse course as you did. Few have the self-confidence to do it, and most simply continue in denial. Salud!

Re: Your Political Stance - 2014 Edition

I call it the Donald Trump effect...

2014: Right: 0.02, Libertarian: 2.61
2017: Left: 0.9, Libertarian: 4.39
2019: Left: 3.22 Libertarian: 3.17
2020: Left 3.6 Libertarian: 3.15

A NY Times interactive graphic showing just how far right the GOP is. And how moderate the Dems are despite being "radical left." Honestly, a new political party of true Centrist/Conservative values would likely pick off most the GOP and a fraction of the Dems.

Let the far right quietly wander into the dark.

You don't recover from going full fascist.

There aren't any conservatives in the US. The fact that the Nazis took over the GOP so easily is proof of that.
