Your Jersey Collection

Re: Your Jersey Collection

A fan of the goalies, sounds like? That's an awesome collection. That's no excuse for being too lazy to type them, especially when your actual job is typing about sports. :p

He's so proud of his collection and thought it was so awesome until he read this thread. Now he doesn't want to write out all the jerseys he has as they'll look like crap compared to what everyone else has.

Re: Your Jersey Collection

I thought that's because the point of his collection WAS to collect the crap jerseys? I mean, seriously, who would want a Mooterus jersey?

Speaking of that... anyone know where to pick up any cheap Mooterus jerseys at? :D

Re: Your Jersey Collection

So this thread brings up an interesting question. If you know you have a jersey that is worth a lot and you want to get the most you can for it, where is the best place to do that? Just curious.

I'm not here to impress you.

The Blue Jackets third I bought at the NHL Store on Monday is now extra hilarious because it has the founder's initials on the back collar. Those initials? JHM. If I had noticed this sooner I would've shown this to JMH when I saw him Monday night.

Re: Your Jersey Collection

That guy (the seller, or more precisely the guy whose estate is I believe the seller) lived in the town where I grew up, his nephew was in my class from elementary school through high school. Not surprisingly, they had a lot of money. (If you click through to the other listings, you'll notice that they're also selling Whitey Ford's Cy Young Award.)

Edit to add:
Something for the more budget-minded.

Thanks.

While not just jerseys my friend has one of the best collections out there. He has something signed by all but four people ever inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame including announcers, refs, etc... Heck, he has 3 things that are signed by Lord Stanley alone.

That is the exact opposite of what happened to me, so far. In HS, I knew a sports card/memorabilia owner enough to pay only $5 over his cost, and that's where the bulk of my jersey collection came from. Nowadays, jerseys are truly a luxury, due to cost (even for replicas) and other expenses. My long-term goal does include owning a jersey from every NFL team (personalized with a favorite player, of course) and a few more hockey sweaters.

Re: Your Jersey Collection

Got my 2009 Gameworn White Danny Kristo WJC Jersey today. And it's photomatched to a picture of mwade's. Hooray.

My only real goal is to have a couple of game-worn, or at least autographs on the jerseys that I do have. I mean, Miller and Reyes are my favorite players on the only two teams that I really really follow.

This fall, during RPI's Black "Friday" game, I put in a couple bids for one of the special jerseys, but came up short on all of them. At this point, that's the only one that I'd be willing to put money down for.

I still rue the day I declined to buy a game-used Probert white Red Wings jersey (w/bloodstains!) for $400 (this was about '92-'93 or so). Guy had a ton of game-used (he was a legit jersey dealer), and always came around the store. :(

Re: Your Jersey Collection

I didn't buy a gameworn Jonathon Toews Sioux jersey for $200. It makes me sad. The good deals only happen when you don't have the money to buy them.
