You Guys Again? UNH Wildcats @ UMD Bulldogs

Re: You Guys Again? UNH Wildcats @ UMD Bulldogs

Unknown as of yet. I'm talking to UMD about possibly going but I have to stand in line behind B2.

That would be very cool;)

The reason I won't be in Duluth is largely because I didn't see that trip coming:eek:

As late as the conclusion of the Cornell - Clarkson game, UNH fans were thinking the trip would be to either Clarkson or Harvard. I already have arrangements to go to the Frozen Four whether UNH is there or not (did the same for Lake Placid).

If I could come up with a reasonable way to ask my boss if I could only work 2 - 3 days a week throughout March, maybe it would have been a possibility, but I have one of those jobs that I have to be there to do, noone does it in my absence, and things kind of grind to a halt if it's not attended to, so I have to plan in advance:(

Re: You Guys Again? UNH Wildcats @ UMD Bulldogs

Such a manner as what exactly? You going to point a finger at me every time you fail to get the joke? Because it's my fault the joke goes right over your head?

You, and you alone are responsible for this post and it's inherent ineptitude. Don't reference me as some sort of excuse or reason for your own unenlightened misinterpretations.

I'm not sure but I think this is quite possibly more entertaining than me not getting the joke! That's good stuff, Brooky. Keep it flowing!

Re: You Guys Again? UNH Wildcats @ UMD Bulldogs

Short version:

......., ..the committee looked at the individual comparisons between UNH, Cornot, and Clarkson. .......

"Cornot"....Now there is a novel new nickname

Re: You Guys Again? UNH Wildcats @ UMD Bulldogs

Also, head-to-head comparisons are generally more important than overall comparisons one.

Given that, you can conclude the following
(1) The NCAA either considered Cornell the winner of its comparisons with Wisconsin and UConn, or completely ignored this. Cornell won the comparisons with UNH & Clarkson. Thus Cornell is No. 5.

(2) UNH was ahead of Clarkson in 2 criteria, while Clarkson was ahead of UNH in 2 criteria. Normally, RPI is the tiebreaker. UNH wins. But, UNH was ahead in RPI by .0003 which is basically a completely meaningless number. The committee decided Clarkson's H2H and common opponent advantage were more telling. Edge Clarkson. (another possibility is that USCHO's RPI calculation has some subtle differences with the NCAA's.)

In the end the Clarkson/UNH comparison end result does not matter that much from a travel perspective, as both are heading out West.

See, you DO learn something new everyday. I knew what freak was referring to regarding the tapes, the hotels, etc . . . but I didn't know the red text was an indicator of extreme sarcasm on these here boards.

I thought he was trying to be as psychologically damaging as possible.

Re: You Guys Again? UNH Wildcats @ UMD Bulldogs

Update on the broadcast front: my understanding is B2 will stream the game for free (per NCAA rules) this Saturday so no repeat of two years ago. We will be a few hours south at Clarkson-Minnesota instead.

Re: You Guys Again? UNH Wildcats @ UMD Bulldogs

Ever since UMD started rolling 3 lines more consistently, they've only lost 1 game (since the new year...) They (the third line) haven't scored a ton but they haven't cost the team that much and given the first line a needed break at times.

At least in the games that I've seen, UMD didn't play their 3rd that much more than they did vs UM in October. The bigger changes that I've seen in the second half are the addition of #3 and the development of the frosh.

Re: You Guys Again? UNH Wildcats @ UMD Bulldogs

That third line has been working hard all season even if they haven't piled up a lot of points. If they can keep opponents from scoring so the top two lines can put pucks in the net, that works for me. Kacy Ambroz has really improved...I really like her playing style. Thibault is a scrapper and Dodge has starting putting numbers up, which is nice to see from a hometown girl. The Dogs really needed that second line to step up and they got some offense last weekend from Wong and Cournoyer that's been strangely missing lately. Otherwise, the Bulldogs seem pretty balanced for having played with such a shallow roster this season. That surprises me (in a good way) more than anything else.

I agree that the 3rd line has stepped up - One of the fun things is watching players improve year over year. I've seen an improvement in both Ambroz and Guzzo. Fun to watch. Dodge will start to get some numbers - only a matter of time.

Re: You Guys Again? UNH Wildcats @ UMD Bulldogs

This has the makings of a good game

It's clear from the stats that the Paton-Long-Lavoie unit has done the bulk of the scoring, but the second unit has the potential too. Horn, who has seen duty primarily on the blue line since Birchard's injury, put up 21 points as a freshman. Cahill, Skudder, and Allen are all quite capable of scoring, and depending on what happens at D, any of those four make up a very solid line.

The Cuthbert-Sisk-Clark/Goloubef/Morrison combos have a good mix of experience and speed, and while they may not be expected to light the lamp, have the potential to surprise, a la Fenway.

The wildcard is intensity, and for the love of hockey, they need to SHOOT the puck.

Guzzo's playing time has gone way down again with Tuominen back.. since they put Cournoyer with Dodge and Ambroz, she might get a shift in a game like Saturday when UMD had a 5-0 lead.

Re: You Guys Again? UNH Wildcats @ UMD Bulldogs

this thread is much quieter this year without digdogs

Hmmm . . . you're right.

But, here's what's going to happen: Rasmussen, Murray, Posa and Larocque are going to control the neutral zone while UMD's fast, aggressive forwards forecheck like mad. Harss will stone as she has most of the season . . . . and UMD will win 4-1.

Really, I'm sorry to be the one to say so.

Re: You Guys Again? UNH Wildcats @ UMD Bulldogs

you're entitled to your opinion. I think it should be a pretty good game as it was last year. The end score didn't actually show how close the game was. The score was tied until Paton went down with an injury and the next shift Irwin (whom Paton contained all game) went up the ice and scored.

I'll say 3-1 with Manue scoring an empty netter!
