In the smae way that teams play up to the other teams potential, I think that UNH slowed down UMD's speed and took them out of their normal rythem(sp)...UNH played hard but they were just to weak on defense this year...they missed the size and presence of Joyce and Bellamy, with the loss of Birchard.....Sheary has the heart but not the size and Chappell is a freshman, Brock as well....I love 'em and thank them for a great effort and fun year...I will so miss Paton , Sisk, Cahill, and Long
For someone that claims to have watched hockey for 35 years you have no idea what to watch.
Birchard has been missed you are correct on that, however, sherry was the best d one the ice today. Several tape to tape passes were missed today and in turn the puck went right back into the zone. The issue this year was that the team could not score .... probably not a defensive issue.
Normally, I think this is an actual responsibility for forwards...a task they're charged with as a routine...that doesn't really translate to "no offense" as a given.....when the forwards have to help get the puck out of the defensive zone, there will be no offense....
sorry Mary, but if the D can't get the puck up so there is a transition game, then there will be no offense....when the forwards have to help get the puck out of the defensive zone, there will be no offense....when the D has in-zone turnovers that negate any forward flow, there willbe no offense....I say all this with great respect for our ladies, but ignoring the situation will not help

Blais certainly had her chances. There was a lot of action right in front of the net, lots of bouncing pucks. I was surprised they didn't put more points on the board.
Shooting at ice level is a pain in the butt. The DECC does have relatively clean glass, but crappy lights are even crappier through a sheet of plexiglass. It's been fun the past couple of months to try shooting hockey, but I miss just sitting and enjoying the game, too.
Great photos!!!
