Yale Hockey 2010

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

Ivy's Best....ECACs Best....best in CT (although have to like what Quinnipiac is doing)....and currently Best in New England!

Pairwise will improve significantly as we move forward.

Currently best in New England belongs to UVM. That will change as they enter HE play (unless they learn to stop blowing leads). Yale's loss to UVM is what has them down right now. How Spillane got a 1-0 shutout is beyond me.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

Could Yale be is uscho top 5 come Monday?

Give Colorado College's 2 losses, would seem a good chance.

Keep it up boys!

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

Miami-OH got swept too, by Robert Morris. Will voters have the guts to move Yale past them, too?

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

#5 !

I believe this is a first for Yale

if there is one thing to take from that ranking, it's that we are in for all that Harvard has and then some tomorrow night.

YHF;

The Bulldogs were #5 LAST YEAR..... headed into the NCAAs!!!
As far as tomorrow night at the Bright Center goes, I could not agree
with you more. To mix a metaphor AND indulge in a bit hyperbole all at the
same time, THIS IS HARVARD's SUPER BOWL. This is their chance to a) BEGIN
to turn their season around, b) inflict some MAJOR pain on their arch rival and
throw a roadblock in front of the Yale juggernaut. That said, Keith Allain is the best thing that ever happened to Yale Hockey, and I am sure he will have ALL the guys alert for an ambush. Even more importantly, I continue to
be VERY impressed by the team chemistry; I have been following Yale Hockey for a long time, and this group is as close-knit and dedicated to TEAM and to
EACH OTHER as any I've had the privilege of being around. I am confident that BOTH teams will bring their A-games, and that Yale's A-game beats Harvard's.

Well, not quite. Your goalie isn't a world beater - he whiffed on Alex Fallstrom's slap shot from out near the blue line. But I will say that you guys have a lot of talent and move the puck with speed and accuracy. I don't doubt your #5 ranking is deserved but this makes two wins against top ten teams for Harvard in the past three weeks. Not bad but we still have a long way to go.

Skate 79;

As the saying goes, "To the victors,go the spoils".... and the bragging
rights. Harvard did bring its A game (this time I left the hyphen out, lest it be
construed as a minus sign), and Yale did not. Perhaps more importantly,
Harvard played a SMARTER game. Duly noted was the in-game graphic that
the Crimson are the LEAST-penalized team in the nation (11.6 min/game).
You will get no argument from me on your ultimate point: I have said ALL
ALONG that Harvard is a much better team than their record to date might imply. Truth be told, in fact, and reading analytically my own thoughts that you quoted, I was, like the proverbial foolish doctor "treating myself". Ever since I got back from the Wisconsin road trip (man, was THAT a nasty crowd) I had major misgivings about the upcoming Harvard game. Turns out
I was right. See you at The Whale.

Doc,

I watched the Harvard game on the internet, and despite the rather poor quality of the feed, I thought our guys moved well on the ice, especially inthe third period. Harvard has plenty of talent and palying them in Bright is always a challenge. Obviously the two goals scored from near the blue line were the difference and certainly one of them could have been stopped. Also, as you pointed out, the penalties were a disaster for us.

That said, when you take on your nemesis anything can happen as it did Tuesday night. I will be at the Whale tomorrow night to see the guys (hopefully) return to their winning ways.

Actually only one of the goals was scored out near the blue line. The others by Leblanc were out in front of your goalie.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

Well, the Bulldogs continue to make every game interesting. Saturday night was a very exciting game to watch and great example of Yale's offensive potential. Aside from the shortie, the power play was dominating. But they couldn't close the door on a tenacious Brown squad.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

Last night's game against Union was a doozy to watch. As licwinko mentioned previously, the PP was fantastic, the puck movement and tenacity in the offensive zone is superb. Every line creates chances and the speed of the team is unbelievable.

Defense remains a huge issue. Also, our goalies aren't fantastic. Our guys are poor at defending in transition (our forwards get caught up ice far too often) and we aren't strong defending down low and against the half boards. Once we get it out, it turns into instant offense, however.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

We were soundly beat by a RPI team that dug in and played a solid defensive game. We gave up way too much in the slot and on the rush. Also, our goaltending is shaky. At least one of those goals Maricic would want back. How come we have such a problem with RPI?

I think it's because we play similar styles. You guys try to use speed against us, and you get burned. However most of the other teams aren't as fluid and graceful, so your team is able to handle them easily, where as we have trouble with them. You definitely have a fast team, but I think RPI is one of the few teams (also Army in the AHA, probably a few others) where back-and-forth just doesn't work. Also, if the goaltending is shaky, you'll have trouble against us. Michigan learned that the hard way.

I didn't see last night's game, but saw the first match, and your skaters are very talented. Best of luck in the rest of the season.

RPI seems like a team that should have more wins that it does. Any reason why? You've beat us twice quite easily.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

RPI blew third period leads against St. Lawrence, Union, and Harvard, resulting in two losses and a tie. The loss to Union was particularly painful, as RPI led with one minute to play and gave up two goals in the final 60 seconds. The tie against Harvard didn't feel very good, either, as the Crimson scored the tying goal with two and a fraction seconds left on the clock.

If RPI had held on for those three wins, they would be tied with Cornell right now.
