Yale Hockey 2010

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

Anyone else think we'll see Blase in net on Thursday? I believe he has yet to see any playing time. Maricic played well, but, as others have commented, he doesn't fill you with confidence. I'd like to see how the senior looks this year.

I have been very surprised that Blase has not had a start yet this year. Maricic has looked ok, and Rondeau has been really up and down- sounds like had bad game against Brown before getting yanked for Blase in the 3rd period.

I suspect we will see Blase starting in goal this week.

Don't forget that last year also started in a similar fashion as we looked for a goalie to come forward and stand out. In the end Richards exceeded all expectation, but he wasn't even the starter at this time last year.

The season is young, and this team certainly has the skills to compete with anyone in the country.

Agreed 100%. I think Blase deserves and will get his chance to start soon (probably against Sacred Heart). I also can see any of those 3 guys stepping up and having a good year. None of them will match Alec's season last year but I think one of them will step up.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

Aside from being Blase's possible first start, tomorrow will also be the first meeting between the two schools. And the preseason coach swap presents an interesting story line.

On paper, this should be all Yale, but Saturday was suppose to be as well. I saw Sacred Heart play tough against Air Force early last season--this could be a competitive game.

Sadly, travel prevents me from attending. But, apparently, if you were a pro/college jersey you get in free.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

I understand Keith wanting to get a freshman his first start against a weaker opponent but when will Blase get his first start? Whatever, it sounded like the team played a good game.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

I appreciate the comments that we have to be patient about the goalie situation, but I am perplexed about the number of goals we are giving up every game. We are currently 11th in save % in the ECAC (only Harvard is worse). And Blase has seen no significant playing time. Am I the only person concerned about this?

Remember that Allain did the same thing at the beginning of last year--and it turned out pretty well. I'm going to continue to trust his judgment. However, I do agree it's odd that Blase has not started a game yet, or really seen much ice time.

Big opportunity for some payback tonight. Should be a fun one.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

I will be at the game tonight--my first trip to Gutterson Field House. Let's hope it's a positive one!

Yeah this is a huge game for Yale. I hope Blase gets the start but I wouldn't be surprised to see any of the four in there with the way Keith has flip-flopped them so far.

It was quite a game tonight. Gutterson is a great place to watch a hockey game. Once again we controlled the puck better than the other side but did a poor job of taking shots, crashing the net and picking up rebounds. A particular low point was a two man advantage at the beginning of the third period in which we took only a couple of shots at the net.

A real bright spot, however, was Jeff Malcolm in goal. He did a sensational job, and the one goal that was earned by Vermont was the result of a pileup in front of the net which required the referee to view the videotape before making a judgment. While we didn't win the game, we may have made real progress in sorting out our goalie situation, which would be a welcome relief as we have a full stretch of critical ECAC battles just ahead of us (starting with Quinni this Friday).

I haven't seen Quinni play this year, but our guys can (imho) skate with anyone, so if we can just fire the puck more at the goal and cover the rebounds, we have a very good chance of prevailing on the friendly ice at Ingalls.

I was very surprised to see Malcolm in the lineup. What a great thing though for a frosh to play that well on the road. Our guys can definitely skate with anybody and I expect a fun game vs. Q.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

I have no idea what to expect tonight, but it's certainly been an exciting week of anticipation. Allain and Pecknold had an online chat Q&A yesterday, but it was as informative as campaign speech--neither coach committed to anything.

This one might come down to which team can keep their emotions in check and stay outta the box.

Good luck Bulldogs!

So true. I was waiting for a "sexual relations" quote to come out.

Best of luck tonight. May the best New Haven area team win.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

Good game tonight, Yale. This is really great for hockey in this area.

Seeya in a couple months at The Bank. We'll be sure to return the hospitality and take you guys out then!

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

We definitely weren't at our best tonight but you guys wanted it more and did what needed to be done. Congrats.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

The last half of the game reminded me of the way the team played last season. Relentless forecheck, active sticks, hard skating both ways, shots on net and going to the net. Great game!

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

What do you know, we both got what we wanted.

Even with quippy, little comments like this. Congrats to Yale on being the MUCH better team last night. The arena had a great atmosphere which is also leading to a great rivalry. See ya at the Bank in Feb on our Senior Night!

I just can't help myself, everyone's so cordial in here--it can get boring.

But, that was a great game last night. Tied at both intermissions, I figured for sure we'd see OT. Both schools' bands, horrible officiating, a "fight", the game had it all.

I think it'll be really tough for the team to be ready for Princeton this afternoon, but I will bet the Princeton fans are less rowdy than Q's.
