Yale Hockey 2010

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

Great game by Yale tonight, they came out flying and never let up the pressure, the forecheck was fantastic and if not for some terrible penalty calls by the refs in the third period the game would have been six to one. A complete 180 from last night and just what the doctor ordered, should be fun Sunday.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

If yale loses this series, do they still make the ncaas?

Looking at the numbers, Yale would probably make the NCAAs with a loss Sunday but they simply aren't going to lose to Brown tomorrow.
Yale certainly makes the NCAAs with a win Sunday and a win in one of the 2 ECAC Champ final 4 games.
Yale probably does not make the NCAAs with a win Sunday and then 2-losses in the ECAC Champ final 4 games.

Pairwise is a funky system.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

Hopefully the committee has second thoughts about 2 CHA teams making it. You cant say Bemidji is a lock for an at-large, right now they are directly in front of Yale in the PWR. Lets just hope for a Sunday night win!

Benidji IS a lock.
as is the fact that CHA will have 2 teams in the NCAA.
Rules are rules and aren't going to be changed mid-season.
The CHA disbands after this year by the way.

Actually, the committee can't have "second thoughts" about two CHA teams making it. Bemidji's non-conference record and their regular season record dictates that they belong, and that's it. If anything, Bemidji's non-conference record would indicate that they might belong even more than Yale does. There will be two CHA teams in the tournament. The sooner that becomes accepted, the happier you'll be.

I think Yale should still be in even if they lose tonight, but that's not going to happen anyway, is it, folks?

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

They have a shot with a loss tonight, but not a great one. And there can't be anymore "Alabama Huntsville's" to really mess things up. And I dont think Bemidji can be considered an absolute lock, strength of schedule is only slightly better than Yale's (34 vs. 38).

Dude. There are no choices by the Committee. The Committee uses the PWR to determine the field. Nothing else. With the AHA Champion and UAH as locks, the top 14 in the PWR after that are in.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

You realize the committee does not actually use the PWR , right? It has been very accurate over the years, but is not used by committee.

Yeah.

They use there own system that is very very similar. But since you know it all and Bemijdi isn't a lock you must be right.

Can you tell us when the last time the PWR was wrong?

As noted by USCHO. 'Although the PWR does not precisely duplicate the method used by the committee, the PWR has exactly predicted the NCAA tournament entries in each of the last eight years. (The difference in the process is that the NCAA committee doesn't actually take the final step of totaling the comparison wins, and summarizing it into a neat PWR chart).'

You be the judge....

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

Never claimed to know it all. Just hoping against hope that 2 teams from a 4 team conference wouldnt make it.

And the last time the PWR was wrong was 2001.

They better allow both teams to be in the dance because what does that say to other schools that may be considering entering D-I hockey and then seeing the committee breaking away so significantly from the rating system?

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

That's a tough loss.
Yale was a different team (especially on Power-play) without Backman.

Making the NCAAs now by no means a given as we currently sit in 12th place in pairwise.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

Reason #678 why you shouldn't **** off the woofing gods.
Beware of what is coming your way, they play the same game as the Big Red and are doing it with confidence, this coming from a Yale fan. BTW hope you win the whole thing for Yale's NCAA sake.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010

Attended the game tonight and although very disappointed in the outcome would say that Yale threw everything at Brown and was basically out defensed. Brown clogged every shooting lane, not allowing many clean Yale shots. The Brown goalie made some good saves but never really had to "stand on his head". Most Yale shots were either deflected or challenged. The lone Brown goal (shorthanded) was the result of two Yale players colliding with each other on a rush to the Brown blue line, very strange. Great season from Yale , I hope it continues, if not, good luck to the seniors in the future!

Oh, I don't think we'll be underestimating them, especially after seeing them accomplish what we tried (and failed) to do to your squad twice this season. They also gave us a very tough game at Lynah that was much closer than the 5-3 final score indicated.
