Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Just curious for those that attended the game...........any comments on the venue? From the interviews in both games it sounded like the high temps today made the building very warm and the ice soft and choppy.

This is the first time in a number of years I have not attended the ECAC weekend (because of the location). It sure looked pretty empty on TV with little pockets of fans here and there but the overall impression was it was pretty empty.

Normally one see's a lot of Red for the Cornell fans who travel well but even their contingent looked pretty small.

What's the verdict so far?? Serviceable venue or failed experiment????

failed experiment????
Boardwalk Hall is a beautiful building, we heard first hand that the ice was not that great,It did not show to be true from the quality of play. I f we could plop this place down about 200 miles north all would be well. I have to say that it was cool to have something to do outside of the rink, but would not let us out between games On a very happy note, they served a wide variety of beer! Temp was fine in the stands and did not affect play.

Ahhhh...hockey nirvana or hockey hell? Another contest with everything on the line between my team and my alma mater. I am sorely tempted to root for my alma mater as a win gets them into the tournament, and a loss sends them home, but I am a Yale fan now, so I will be rooting for the boys in blue. BTW, Yale showed Union and RPI how to handle an upstart tonight.

They really have to change that...Makes no sense

And for even more improvement, I'm sure a Blackjack table placed in the upper level with good view of ice, would have increased profits by about 250%

I think you're on to something, YHF. Forum members present last night were talking about the fact that Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun needs ice - central location for the ECAC, lots of things to do in the off hours, plenty of lodging. And Blackjack tables in the skyboxes would seal the deal, I think.

Wonder if the NCAA would ever allow something like that. I tend to doubt it, but then again if it is all about the money maybe there is a chance. I certainly would go.

The Women's Big East Tournament is being seriously courted by Mohegan Sun. There are a few "snobby" schools (read Catholic institutions and I are one to boot) holding out on the fact it is in a casino. If that place had ice it would be awesome. The geography would be a lot better (although still a bit far for the North Country, Cornell and Colgate but we're never going to please everyone considering our geography). The fact you don't have to leave for all that enertainment, dining, stores, etc. is a wonderful attraction. It is also conceivable to go to Mohegan Sun........watch an event, have a great meal and not even enter the Casino. I went to a Davis Cup tennis match some years ago at Mohegan Sun and it was fantastic.

I'm wondering if the not letting you out between the games issue was a deal the ECAC had to cut with AC? I've heard rumors (dont' know the truth) that they gave us the arena free to get us there. While we all want a rollicking venue that draws fans I have to say being at home last night and being able to channel surf between our games, the CCHA and Hockey East was pretty cool. By the by, the building looked empty in the CCHA broadcast of Notre Dame/Miami as well from the Joe. I tried to look up attendance figures and even the CCHA seems not to have posted them. Hockey East claims 16,000 plus at the "Gahden".

Two more years in AC and the arguments will heat up again. It does sound like those of you who went did have a lot more to do once you got out of the arena than in Albany.

Hope Yale isn't looking ahead, but I will...

Who would you rather see us face in first round of NCAAs:
A. RIT (who made it to Frozen 4 last year)
B. Air Force (who already beat us this year)

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

A rematch with Air Force, although the two teams are pretty close (at the moment they're 35th and 36th in KRACH). Yale led the Air Force game 3-0 five minutes into the third period and I just think they ran out of gas in their second night at altitude. Bridgeport is much closer to sea level. Much, much closer.

Air Force. We owe them a beating and it's certainly easier to get motivated to play a team that you know has the capability to beat you

As far as AC is concerned as a venue, it's a beautiful building, and there are more things to do outside of the arena in AC than in Albany, but it's just too far, and that is reflected in the poor attendance. The true barometer is that Cornell had far fewer fans travelling than they usually do. ECAC Hockey needs to find a true home like Hockey East has. I know that is much more difficult to do because of the geography that the ECAC schools cover, but they need to try harder. Agreed that Mohegan Sun would be a great location, but the arena doesn't have ice, and until they do, the idea is a pipe dream. I continue to believe that Bridgeport would be an excellent location. All the ECAC need do is look at the attendance for the NCAA Regional in 2009, the expected sell out this year, and the fact that the NCAA broke their rule against Regionals at the same venue for consecutive years by choosing Bridgeport for next year also. I know that the ambiance of the area outside the chosen arena is a nice thing to have, but the real reason that fans attend these games is for the hockey, and they base their decisions to attend, in large part, by the proximity of the arena. Bridgeport bid for the ECACs and lost this time. The ECAC should rethink their disastrous AC decision and re-approach Bridgeport for next year.

I love seeing how fans of UNO and RPI suddenly become Yale fans for a day. The only thing better would have been if Brown were on the bubble and Onion Man had to root for us.

It isn't a problem rooting for Yale on a temporary basis. It would be much more difficult if it were Cornell that we had to root for today.

How can I not like a school who has a Hebrew biblical quote on its emblem, even if the font looks illiterate?
