Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Some video of the Yale game on the ECAC site, turn down the volume as the announcer is really rude. http://www.ecachockey.com/men/index

Oh goodness. It's no wonder that Yale Hockey on WYBC can only be heard online and not on your AM dial anymore. That guy is an embarrassment and disgrace. I can only hope that he is an undergraduate senior, who got beat up by some SLU fans, was really hung over, and knew this was his last home game. If that's the case, ok, I forgive him. However, please don't allow him in the press box anymore Yale.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Has anyone been able to get Yale out of the #1 Pairwise ranking if they win on Friday v. Colgate?
(.....even with loss in championship game)

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

TimU is right. What you're missing here is his predilection for calling a stick a "twig," (once is marginal, fifteen times is ridiculous) and the fact that anyone who loses the puck is deemed "dispossessed."

I plugged Yale beating Colgate and losing the championship game along with UND,BC, and Michigan winning out and I can't knock Yale out so it appears that a win over Colgate clinches the #1 overall seed

I suspect it can be done, but here's what I know has to happen: (1) BC and/or UND have to win their conferences by TUC games, giving them each 2 TUC wins, which make them .7121 and .7059 in TUC. (2) Cornell needs to lose twice and drop out as a TUC. That takes Yale to 10-4. (3) Air Force has to win their first game, keeping them a TUC. Then, if there is a combination that takes Quinnipiac out as a TUC, that will do it, but the "best" I've done so far is to reduce Quinnipiac to .5020, ie, just in.

Well, I tried a bunch of stuff and I couldn't do it. The "problem" is that the teams QU faced are all done, other than ECAC teams, all of whose moves are forced. So it's down to the "opponents opponents" criterion of RPI, and I just can't seem to move it nearly far enough.

BC is playing Northeastern who is not a TUC so they can't win their conference with two TUC games. UND can win their conference with 2 TUC games, depending on who comes out of the 1st round.

Yeah, sorry... I knew that. And if Yale loses to Colgate, I don't think UND can catch us. We know that BC can catch us in that case because they don't need TUC... They've got COp.
But if Yale beatts Colgate, the only way either beats us (and both do) is if both Cornell and QU fall out of TUCdom. And I haven't figured out a way to kill off QU.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Can't see the Big Red losing two in AC. Too strong defensively, and too much experience on this big stage. Most of the key players on this year's team were on the team that won the ECAC last year. The Dartmouth-Cornell game should be a death match as Dartmouth needs the game to qualify for the NCAA's (a win doesn't automatically get them in, but a loss gives them only a slim chance to make it) and Cornell knows they get the automatic bid if they win the championship. Cornell swept the season series. Will the 3rd time be the charm for the Big Green?

North Dakota cannot win the comparison with Yale, but can overtake Yale for the top spot if Yale loses to Colgate. Technically, Yale, BC and UND would all have 28 comparisons won, but North Dakota would be #1 based on RPI.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Does anyone know whay happened to Jaskowiak? He had no gloves on post game with ice on one of his hands?

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

I have not heard anything except that I was mistaken about Mason who has a reportedly serious shoulder injury. Anderson's condition is only what has been reported in the paper that he is practicing full speed, non contact as of last week. I know nothing about Jasko, I will try and find out more Sorry.

BTW I thought Young played well on Sunday! Borbounais is becoming a little pesterer, he was the impetus for the misconducts in the third period on Sunday, he has to stop leaving his feet when he tries to hit hard though.

He quickly exceeded my pain threshold and by the end of the weekend I wanted to beat him. Truly awful. If there is one thing that could have made this series loss worse for a Saint fan (or even a win for Yale a fan) it was this. The level of insults he leveled against SLU....just pathetic really.

And getting back on his feet and hurling insults at the Saint bench! :-(

I don't know if he is a WYBC (Yale hockey radio station) announcer or not, I did not listen to any internet broadcasts from WYBC this year, was this idiot on the B2 broadcast or from the WYBC website?

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

I forgot to mention one other outstanding part of Yale's game last night, the penalty kill was perfect!

I think more than anything, SLU's power(less) play was in full effect. They looked worse than a group of squirts out there at times, especially on the two 5x3's. It had been a strong point coming into this weekend, but full kudos for Yale for atleast playing a part in basically shutting it down, as we only got 2 PPG's on 15 chances for the series.

Brandon - you summed it up perfectly. Our two 5x3's were painful to watch.

As for all the chippiness, cheap shots, whining, etc. --- that's not the way that SLU or Yale normally play. That's more disappointing to me than the outcome of the series, a series won by the better team. Bashing officials, at least here, is not the norm for me but the officials clearly lost control of the series early-on. The coaches, players, and fans of both teams deserved better. I'll leave it at that.

As an aside, it was a pleasure meeting a good number of Yale fans this season. You are a classy group and I'm already looking forward to returning to Ingalls next season. Lastly, your band is excellent and really does a great job of adding to the atmosphere at games.
