Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Although Yale tried really hard to penetrate the wall that is Browns goalie, I have this sinking feeling that Yale is circling the drain at just the wrong time. They need to come away with at least 3 points up north to renew my confidence. Any team with a decent offense would have ate up those juicy rebounds that Maricic left hanging last night. Having watched Minnesota and BC on tv the past few nights, I believe we are marginal to make the national post season. It is hard to put the finger on what exactly is wrong with this team, they show flashes of brilliance and work extremely hard for very little to show for it. I think it was said before that we are really lacking a finisher or two. Most of Yale's goals are opportunistic instead of setting up a play for a specific shot. That 3 on 0 save by the Brown goalie was sick.

With all due respect to your service to the New Haven community as a fire chief, I feel the need to address some of your "concerns"; first of all, I think that your posts would earn more crediblity if you composed them in clear, logical and understandable English rather than "stream of consciousness" style. That said, here's my feedback on your post.....start to finish:
1. Brown's goalie is named Anthony Borelli. He is #2 IN THE COUNTRY in GAA and SAVE %; that he is capable of the kind of performance we saw last night should shock no one.
2. Yale is hardly "circling the drain"; the Brown loss is the first time all year that they have lost 2 in-a-row. Yale is still 2nd in the ECAC....9-6-1 in the league and 13-7-3 overall.
3. "Up north" generally refers to the North Country teams, as in St. Lawrence and Clarkson. Union and RPI are generally known as the "Capital District" (as in Albany) teams.
4. Having just spoken to 2 Yale players and the parents of 2 others, I don't get the sense that renewing YOUR confidence matters to them.
5. "Would have ATE (sic).....that Maricic left hanging" ...." You jump from knocking Yale to taking a pot shot at Brown.
6. "...and work extremely hard for very little to show for it." Please see #2. above.
7. "we" are lacking a finisher or two. YES....there you are spot on. I'd love to look at the ice and see Broc Little or Brian O'Neill. So would every other team in Division I.....but they have moved on to the pros.
8. Notwithstanding the "we" and the "GO Yale" signature, I note that you have been drinking the Quinnipiac "Kool Aid" lately; that's fine....you live in the New Haven community. Furthermore if Yale doesn't get to and/or
win the NCAA Tourney, I hope QU does. It is good for the ECAC and New Haven/ Hamden. GO FOR IT. "WE" can do without a fair weather fan who has no idea of what it is like to be a scholar athlete at Yale.

Doc , Without all due respect, your post is a personal insult to me and my support of Yale Hockey. I will not apologize for speaking my mind and being critical about the team that I love. For you to become personal about my opinions flies in the face of all that Yale has recently tried to accomplish concerning the "gown vs. town" attitude. As far as being a QU fan, you could not be more wrong. I am a hockey fan, and enjoy good hockey, sorry if you think I have jumped ship. Do me a favor and capitalize my title next time, doctor.

OK, Chief.....I guess that somehow I missed the fact that you still love the team. That would be a bad thing; especially on Valentine's Day. After we beat Cornell on 3/2 and grab a first round bye, I want you to be my guest at Mory's and celebrate with the team !!!

I hope you are 100% correct. Believe me, no one wants Yale to finish the season on a roll more than me, and if you happen to make it to Princeton, drinks at the Nassau Inn are on me. I guess the fact that we are 1-2-1 this season against the teams we face in the next four games has me feeling pessimistic. I REALLY hope I am pleasantly surprised.

Thanks, Chief. Regretfully, I will have to watch the QU/Princeton games from Scottsdale. As I see it, we need to grab "W"s at Union and Princeton; if we can steal a point(or two) at RPI and/or QU....that will be "gravy". And , without wishing to be a pedant, may I point out that "technically" we are 2-2-1 against the upcoming foes, IF we count the 10/27/12 non-conference win over the Tigers in the Ivy Shootout. In any case, come to the Cornell game on 3/2/13, and bring your camera. We'll get some group
photos on the ice post-game with the seniors and their families. Cheers, "Doc".

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

I finished watching the Brown game and felt pretty positive. They had 44 shots on net and only had 1 PP. That is a great night.

Borelli stole the game. That happens. The kid played arguably the best game of his career. I don't think that means the team is circling the drain.

Maricic played a fantastic game and I think the game will be great for him going forward. The only thing about the game that was a little alarming for me was how flat footed the D was a few times. I am going to assume it was just one of those nights and I expect them to clean that up for the weekend.

If CB finishes the 3 on 0 we win that game.

Two big games this weekend. I can't wait.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Today's meteor which hit Chelyabinsk seems to have missed former Yale star Ray Giroux, who seems to have retired (though Wikipedia doesn't mention it.) He doesn't seem to be on the active roster.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

I am pretty sure my information on Malcolm is correct.

I got the ok to go to Union on Friday. Any other Yale fans making the trip to the Capital District?

Anyone been to Union? Restaurant suggestions? Anything I can't miss?
I like Aperitivo Cafe on State Street next to Proctor's theatre. Give it a try but don't eat too much because I'm hoping Union is going to give you indigestion tonight. :D The game is being televised regionally by Time Warner cable so the drop of the puck will likely be 7:05 or so, and with the TV timeouts the game will likely not end before 9:30 at the earliest.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Hey Yale fans,

We won't be on WYBC tonight for the Union game, but we will be on tomorrow for the game against RPI, both on WYBC.com and WYBC-AM 1340. Coverage should start right around 6:30 EST before the puck drops at 7.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Yale lines vs Union, 2/15/13

Glad to hear that, Yale needs to right the ship tonight, we are down to a tie for tenth in the pairwise and a win tonight would hopefully stop that decline.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

I ended up taking a ride to Troy, Yale did not play terribly in the first two periods and had some great chances. They seemed to tire in the third and when they were outworked for the third RPI goal, I could tell that the air was out of the balloon. Wilson played well in goal, although I did not see the fourth as I wanted to get back to CT at a decent hour. He did not really have a chance on the first three. After the losses, we are very lucky to still be tied for second place in the ECAC standings. Yale has slipped to 12 in the pairwise.

The 4th was an ENG.
