Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Heading down to B'port tomorrow for the Sacred Heart game. Anyone else going?

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Yeah, hmmm.... 4-0 since then, including 3 shutouts and a 5-0 whitewashing of the defending RS champion. I hate it when I'm right. You guys can ease off any time now! :)

I'd ease off, but it was a 4-0 whitewashing. To be right, you have to get the numbers right as well. :)

I'm passing to do my (trivial) part to discourage Yale from this sort of scheduling. I'd love to have Sacred Heart on the schedule if everyone didn't know they were the worst Division I team. When you have as few out-of-league game slots as Yale has (and I agree with the decision to start with non-ECAC Ivy games), I think you need to make them count, even if it hurts the record. As it is, the Elis have put all their eggs in Saturday's basket. Too risky, IMO.

x1, but I will attend, after the UCONN game and the scare they provided you never know how a team may show up. I agree about the BC game.

As LT said earlier, UConn couldn't skate as fast as we could but they were skilled and when they shut down the transition they were successful. I do think that at least 2 of their 3 goals were the result of defensive brain f**ts on our part. Peel's return has helped us enormously on the d but we still have work to do on d. Sacred Heart and BC are going to be radically different games, in each case like entering another universe.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Anyone notice that they are using Peel as a pure right wing on the power play? Resulted in a nice goal Saturday, and also another way to get experienced players out for the PP.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Yale trailing 7-6 to SACRED HEART with under 2 minutes to go in the 3rd.
This team clearly has a lot of improving to do

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Having been the glass half empty guy here so far,I can only say that I saw this coming. I went to the game hoping for a Yale blowout, but had a bad feeling in the back of my mind that it would be a trap game. Lack of defense in the neutral zone and down deep lead to Yales down fall, amazingly, they were beaten to pucks on a regular basis in their own end. There were a couple soft goals , but the D sucked. I fear for this team on Saturday, if the same team shows up, it will be a massacre.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

I have the disadvantage of not attending the game vs Sacred Heart but the USCHO stats indicated Yale outshot them 53-19 ... And lost? What did I miss? That's not even a 60% save percentage. Ouch.

Believe me, not attending this game was an advantage for you!

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

See, 6 goals... I knew there was nothing to worry about. Wait...what did you say? Oh, never mind.

Well, maybe this will discourage this sort of scheduling from the other direction. A one day drop from 6 to 15 in the RPI. Ouch.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Last night was bad. No other way to put it. They came out flat as Sacred Heart was just more physical than they were. 6 of the 7 goals were very soft, 4 Wrap around goals! how does that happen? but it should never of even been up to the goalies. The second and third (and even the first really) Yale absolutely dominated but they were over zealous offensively and did not take care of the defense thinking it was just going to be point night. The defensemen were to eager to jump up and the forwards provided little to no help on back checks and in zone. Of the goals, one was just a really bad turnover by a freshman defenseman, 4 wrap arounds that just shouldn't happen, and two odd man rushes that resulted in too many guys down low.

This team can play with anybody.... when it plays. But lets just hope they can figure this out before Saturday and they are in for a long game.

With that said, I am feeling optimistic that Keith will get this team going after that embarrassment. I predict an upset win Saturday.

I was thinking the same thing. Keith will light a fire under them after that disgraceful performance and they will be very motivated to show a national audience that they can play with anybody. Losing a game like this to an inferior opponent is the sign of an immature team. I'm sure they thought the game would be a laugher and weren't prepared to play a team that made their seaon with this win. Also, don't discount the Harbor Yard hex. A record of 1-3 in that building and the one win was a nail biter that could have easily gone the other way

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Cornellgrad... the ice appeared bad last night (yes, obviously both teams were skating on it) but it seemed to hinder Yale more because they are such a skating team. Players were falling left and right, pucks bouncing over sticks, it was real sloppy.

LT.. in terms of the turnover, if we are talking about the same one where the D gave it right to there guy who ended up walking in all alone and scoring, I think it was #22 (Fallen) who made the pass as the kid then went right through him and Dueck. Not that it matters who the turnover was as I did not think Peel had his best night either. (safe to say most of the guys did not)

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Anybody know what happened to Miller? He barely made it to the lockerroom at end of the second and I dont beleive he saw the ice in the 3rd. I know he wasnt one of the 6 guys on the ice when they pulled the goalie at the end of the game.
