World Soccer XXXI: Golden Generation?

I just found out from my sister that there is a Mariners HOME game at 7:10 PST on Friday...

Good God Seattle is the place to be that day! I'm surprised that FIFA allowed that to happen. I'm even more surprised that the Mariners and MLB are going to try and deal with the chaos. MLB made their schedule well after the USA's path through the group stage was known...

Well, I was wrong on this one, at least through Day 4. Philly is full between Cote d'Ivoire and Ecuador. Some possible duds coming up during the week with Iran-New Zealand and Iraq-Norway and Austria-Jordan, but these prices aren't turning people away so far.
Yeah, I think the attendace overall has been surprisingly strong. And it also appears a lot of foreigners are indeed traveling to America.

My brother lives in Seattle, and he tells me often how many times they plan simultaneous sporting events downtown. It's insane.

1-1 the final.

So after matchday one in group H, Spain and Cape Verde are tied for third in every way, so it would be a drawing of lots. It would be hilarious if Spain were grouped in favor of Cape Verde.:LOL::LOL::LOL:

IRN 1 - 1 NZL 32'

The goal was scored by Ramin Rezaeian. The announcer said his league stopped playing in February but didn't explain why. Anyone know?

Per AJ:

Iran's domestic league was suspended indefinitely on February 28, 2026, due to the outbreak of war in the region. The cancellation affected both the Persian Gulf Pro League and the Asian Champions League. The sudden halt of the domestic season significantly impacted Iran's national team as they prepared to compete. 17 of the 26 players on the World Cup roster were home-based, meaning they have not played a competitive club match since late February.

Iran put themselves in a difficult spot with the tie. With half the team not really in game shape they could’ve used a three point opener to get ahead in the group.

Gaming out things a bit but, it’ll be interesting to see who the referee will be for the US-Australia game. Likely either Felix Zwayer of Germany or Istvan Kovacs of Romania. Potentially could be Michael Oliver of England if he’s healthy.
Hey, look at me! I was right!

Referee for USA-Australia is Felix Zwayer of Germany.

NYC says hi.

Theoretically, 11 major league mens teams (Islanders, Rangers, Devils, Mets, Yankees, Jets, Giants, Knicks, Nets, NYCFC, Bulls) can host games simultaneously, IINM the city record is 7. I recall that a few years ago all 5 leagues played the same day for the first time.

Add women's leagues and I wouldn't be shocked if the city record is 10.

LA might have the same.

Big difference is that the arenas and stadiums in NYC are spread out from each other (and LA is similar). In Seattle Lumen Field and TMobile Park are literally right next to each other. It’s quite a strain on infrastructure having events at the same time in the area. The only stadiums in NYC that will be near each other will be Citi Field and NYCFC’s stadium when it opens next year.
