World Soccer XXXI: Golden Generation?

Re: Red Cards

There were four red cards total in 2022.

There were three in the opening match today.
I didn’t see the one right after the half, but the two later ones were fully justified. The slap to the cheek by the RSA player was obvious. You can debate the Mexico one, but I think the scoring opportunity was there.

I think it was just a coincidence this all happened in the same 90 minutes.

Oh the Mexico one was absolutely DOGSO. All three red cards were absolutely justified.

What? You’re not looking forward to Brazil-Haiti or Spain-Cape Verde or Argentina-Jordan?
Possibly the best match of the group stage might be ruined because both France and Norway might be 2-0 and through to the knockouts. Imagine those two squaring off and Mbappe and Haaland are both subbed off at half or given a 20-minute cameo so they can rest and not risk injury.

I'd like to change the negative narrative a bit around the WC being in America even if it's technically superficial and is no way meant to cover up the shitstorm that is the country right now.

I am seeing an overwhelmingly positive number of SM posts about people being positively amazed by their first time visit to the country. Now again given the state of the country overall I am not trying to overlook that, but it would not suck if the majority view from visitors is that they enjoyed their time there.

If anything it would be a kick to the teeth of MAGAts.

Back to your regular program.

Good job, Fox...

Decent break for the USMNT with the referee assigned for the Paraguay match tomorrow.

Referee is Dutchman and top UEFA referee Danny Makkelie. Very likely to not put up with any shenanigans and the USMNT players are likely to be more familiar with him.

Really getting sick of Fox advertising that a game starts at noon only to find out it really starts at 3 and there's a 3-hour pregame. Same is true for the USMNT game tonight at "6pm" which actually starts at 9. These are soccer games. NBC is able to do an hour pregame and cover the entire Premier League. CBS does an hour pregame to cover an entire Champions League matchday. Knock this shit off.

It's what FIFA requires in the broadcast package... X amount of hours of coverage on regular broadcast TV.

Canada’s got some strict laws on those convicted of crimes, but kind of wild he’s denied based on charges since he’s never been convicted. There’s gotta be some NHL guys with similar situations who’ve been allowed in in the past, right?

Can't wait until Fox has to do a 3-hour pregame of the gripping Austria-Jordan game.

$20 says they show a screening of Space Jam and pretend it's that Jordan...
