World Soccer XXXI: Golden Generation?

Interposing North American cities using latitude with similar European cities with an explanation of the Gulf Stream should've nipped this in the bud, but I'm sure a 2 month mid season break will be just fine.

To be fair, the league won’t be playing in months they aren’t already playing in. The season now starts in February and the playoffs extend into December. Granted, it’s extending the amount of games being played in November and December.

Apple and Universal also started an AppleTV and Peacock bundle last month too, so now you can have the PL and MLS in one subscription.
This is going to be interesting. I get Apple TV for free with my T-Mobile account. I think I read if you add Peacock, it's $2.00 extra per month. But I don't know how that will work in my circumstance. For that amount, I'll go for it, especially since it's an Olympic year.

So the transition is going to mean an eight-month offseason when they go from Dec 2026 to Late July 2027 with no games?

Its not world ending, but also kind of hard to keep a brand out there for something like this. I assume they will probably cross promote the shit out of this at the Women's World Cup that June...

I thought I read there was going to be a ‘season’ in between.

In the announcement they mentioned they'll play a "transition season of 14 games and playoffs from February to May 2027".

World Cup Qualifying update:

France and Croatia have qualified.

Nigeria and DR Congo will play for Africa’s playoff spot.

Likewise UAE and Iraq for Asia’s.

In CONCACAF, going into the final matches:
Suriname and Panama are tied in Group A so it’ll come down to the final matches, Suriname is ahead on GD so they hold the advantage.

Curacao is a point up (11 to 10) on Jamaica going into the final match between the two. Curacao just needs a draw while Jamaica needs a win.

Honduras and Haiti are on 8 points while Costa Rica is on 6. Costa Rica and Honduras play in Costa Rica while Haiti plays Nicaragua. Costa Rica needs a win to stay alive as they are currently the second place team that would be eliminated while the other second place teams would go into the playoffs.

MLS isn't the only league making a calendar switch, Japan's J.League will be making the switch to a similar winter schedule after the World Cup next year.

Some guy was arguing in FB that the schedule change will now bring more talent to the league because, "players will get the summer off" as if top world-class talent never plays exhibition matches nor international matches in the off-season, and that's the one thing rather than $$ resources keeping the MLS from getting a player like Messi in his prime. 🤣 🤣

We can add Portugal and Norway to the list of qualified countries. Norway’s first World Cup since 1998.

Could 2026 run the table of My People?
  • Norway
  • Italy
  • Czechia
  • Slovakia
Italy can get in via the playoffs. Czechia and Slovakia are currently 2nd in their groups. Slovakia will be going to the playoffs. Czechia will unless they somehow overtake Germany with whom they are tied.

I'm very sad the Faroe Islands is knocked out. Just not sad enough to sacrifice the Czechs.
