It'll shut up some of the "the women should be paid more because the men suck" crowd.
Yeah, I went there.
Failing to make the Olympics lost that battle, at least until Qatar.

Nah, this will quiet things until Tokyo. Of course if the WNT crash out like they did in Rio there won’t be much noise.Failing to make the Olympics lost that battle, at least until Qatar.
And it’s a positive sign they were able to come back and tie things twice. In the past few years they would’ve crumbled after going down 0-1 (TBF they almost did). The first 20 minutes was the US just passing it to Mexico. Not like Mexico was anticipating well and getting into the lane, literally they were trying to make passes through defenders.
After that things started clicking.
The playoff matches to determine the last three teams for the Octagonal Round are set. Quick turnaround as it’s played Saturday and Tuesday.
St. Kitts and Nevis v El Salvador
Haiti v Canada
Panama v Cura?ao
Put up or shut up time for Canada against Haiti, the team that knocked Canada out of the last Gold Cup.

Only among the rubes, since the Olympics is a youth event for the men and not a full senior tournament.

My rankings. JJ will be along shortly to call me a moron =)
He does that; ignore it.
Is the roster I posted the real guys or are there others who for whatever reason will be on the 2022 squad but aren't listed here?
Thank you for the response BTW!
The guys that are playing during the 4-game stretch here are basically who we will have to start World Cup Qualifying this Fall. So this is basically who we got.
Cool.
Looks like defense is... uh oh.
The generation that would’ve lead the program at the 2018 World Cup and into now was near non-existent and never replaced the previous generation. Dempsey, Bradley, Howard and plenty of others were still starting and on the sunny side of 30. There was just no talent to come along and challenge/replace them.So why the huge turnover? Or is it huge? My strobe light survey of the men's team was that every WC I would look at the roster and know about half of it from before, and this seemed to persist even as the guys got really, really old. Then this time around I know 4 guys, that's it.
Was there a Boomer Generation that worked its way through the lifecycle and they all dropped off at once? Is this their famous "wasted golden generation" (Bradley, Dempsey, Beasley, Howard, Altidore, maybe Donovan but I guess he was proto like Iggy Pop)?

No, those rankings are fair, though I’d change Steffen and Ream to Bs.My rankings. JJ will be along shortly to call me a moron =)
That generation was coming up during the beginning of the MLS Academy system, a kind of transition period between the previous system and our current one. Why? I thought the popularity of soccer has only been going up in the US since the 70s. I would think every generation would be better than the prior one.

Plus, there’s never a straight line of talent growth for any country, there were always be ebbs and flows. Even countries like Brazil and France have valleys. Really, only Germany has been quite consistent over the last 50 years.
