I mean, they’re only using four stadiums and two of them are under 30k capacity.

And it didn’t stop New Zealand from setting attendance records for the rugby and cricket Women’s World Cups last year.

It should be a bit worrying considering they have two of the bigger draws in the US and Japan on their side of the draw.

Is travel between the two countries a major ordeal?

I know the "Official" American Outlaws travel packages were based in Wellington for the group stage, and basically said that they would get you tickets to the middle match in Aukland if you want, but travel was on your own. Given that this was the same country, I could only imagine what crossing borders would add.

All the group stage matches and knockout round matches save the final and one Round of 16 match likely involving the US all take place in the same country, basically half in Australia and the other half in New Zealand, so there’s no much necessity in crossing the border for most fans.

I was mostly just pointing out the contrast. It looks a bit weird when they’re praising record ticket sales while begging people to buy tickets and sponsors are giving away tons of tickets.

I was wondering why the bracket was shifted from its traditional AB/CD/EF/GH bracket pairings, but it makes sense now they have to separate A and B to ensure that New Zealand or Australia stay in their country as long as possible should they make the knockout round. But now they've ruined the integrity of it by having a possible intragroup rematch in the semifinals when its usually only possible in the final.

I think real-time results are ok. Especially for Non-US matches. If want to DVR a match from 3am, just avoid the thread till you're done watching at 11am.

US matches would probably be the only one I’d be worried about, and even then the first two and the slotted quarterfinal are scheduled for American TV slots.

I’m surprised there weren’t more games scheduled for the 1pm local/9pm ET slot. Not an unreasonable time locally and American TV seems to run everything. The Olympics routinely schedules for American prime time, with the best example probably being all the swimming finals in Beijing scheduled for the morning so NBC could get the nighttime live viewers.

I imagine attendance concerns are a factor, considering the reports out of New Zealand it’s probably not unfounded, along with a desire to appease European TV outlets.

USWNT games really don’t have that issue because of the huge traveling support plus Fox being one of the few outlets willing to pay serious money.

How the USWNT’s pipeline got fractured.

Articles like this always crack me up. Youth soccer has always been a predatory, political mess and the girls side has always been the worst of it. The ECNL/GA part of it is bad but by God are the levels below it far worse, it’s a level of grift that Trump would find impressive.

There is a pretty easy solution to it all though: Have the professional teams cut them out and force the others to play on their terms. The only problem is that it’s expensive and NWSL teams don’t have the money.

Yeah, it was pretty bad. I wish they’d go back to playing Liga MX or an East v West game.

I’ve always thought the format was odd. I mean, I get the business side of bringing in a PL or UCL level team because it’ll draw eyeballs, but it seems like a lose/lose. Either it took the best of a league to beat a team in training, or a team in training just beat your entire league.

It made sense when the league was low on teams, but now with 30 there’s no reason not to do East-West. Although it’s funny that when the league was at its smallest was when they were doing intra-league.

Went to update some apps on my iPhone and opened the App Store to see a giant ad of Messi in an Inter Miami uniform staring at me.

Leagues Cup start tonight with Inter Miami hosting Cruz Azul.
