World Soccer XXX: We Have Men Too!

No.

It probably should’ve been reviewed.

Makes sense. It's never been clear to me if it's the foot, the body, or what that needs to be on (or above) the line.

So I finally just downloaded LOTG pdf. WHich I should have done before the tournament started.

Anyways, this is interesting:

When the ball is kicked, the defending goalkeeper must have at least part of one foot touching, in line with, or behind, the goal line.

And the "or behind" was flagged yellow, which seems to be for new rules. It also seems to be in direct conflict with this:

The defending goalkeeper must remain on the goal line, facing the kicker, between the goalposts, without touching the goalposts, crossbar or goal net, until the ball has been kicked.

I'm curious if the change wasn't adopted for this tournament and it's for future years or what.

There’s a LOTG app too, that’s what I use.

The one foot rule has been around for a few years. The GK has to start on the line but can move and have one foot when the ball is kicked.

Referee should’ve intervened too, “Defender! Defender!” over the mic.

Was wondering if the ref even had a view of it.

Welp

I hope they clear up this language next revision, because it's somewhat contradictory.

Ok, the more I read this, the more I'm confused. https://twitter.com/theifab/status/1545377267513266177

How can a goalkeeper have a foot behind the line when the ball is kicked but must stay on the line until the ball is kicked? These are talking about the same moment of time but describing two conflicting states for the foot.

You can't start on the line until the ball is kicked and then some Planck-length unit of time later be behind the line, practically speaking.

Personal favorite halftime take is from the Canadian fans: “This referee is terrible! We should’ve had three PKs!”

No. You don’t get to complain about officiating when you miss a PK or can’t put a shot on frame. Or have been given a billion warnings but no cautions despite constantly fouling all half.

I’m not rooting for Canada precisely because of that stuff. Their fans are annoying.

He's lucky he didn't get a hard red. Dangerous, rom behind, and could have caused a pretty serious injury there. That was ensconced pretty firmly between tactical and malicious.

A small sample of countries that have scored more World Cup goals than Canada:

Bulgaria
Bolivia
East Germany
North Korea
United Arab Emirates
Iraq
El Salvador
Kuwait
Haiti
