Stupid question perhaps - if any of the U20 eligible players get a cap with the big boys does that make them ineligible for the Olympics?
No, age is the only restriction (beyond the obvious citizenship ones).

Good example would be Neymar playing in 2016 after playing in the 2014 World Cup.

US qualifies for the 2023 U20 World Cup by beating Costa Rica 2-0, they will play the winner of Honduras v Panama for a spot in the 2024 Olympics on Friday.
Honduras did beat Panama 2-1 so it’ll be the US versus Honduras for a spot in the Olympics for at least the third cycle in a row.

Unfortunately this one is in Honduras.

MLS: Congratulations to the Seattle Sounders on winning the CONCACAF Champions League and becoming the first MLS to do so! Truly one of the biggest victories in league history.

Sounders: Yeah, we know! Can we wear our CONCACAF Champions League Winners patch on our jerseys for the rest of the season?

MLS: Um, no.

The Dominican Republic beats Jamaica 1-0 in the CONCACAF U20 tournament and qualifies for the FIFA U20 World Cup.

It is the first ever FIFA tournament appearance for the Dominican Republic.

The upsets keep rolling as Guatemala beats Mexico on kicks.

No U20 World Cup and No Olympics for Mexico.

Guatemala and Dominican Republic will play for a spot in the Olympics on Friday.

As much as I love the schadenfreude over Mexico being eliminated I am:

a) not celebrating too much because the US still needs to beat Honduras in Honduras for the Olympics.

b) don’t believe it’s the disaster US fans think it is.

Was it a big upset or could Mexico U20 be slipping?

Maybe all their good players have come here.

It was an upset, but that happens at the youth levels. It’s a worrying sign for them but it’s not a huge one. It’s not the first time they’ve failed to qualify this century.

Actually, they’ve been doing a good job picking up dual nationals. Though this loss has some of their fanbase putting the blame on the dual nationals.

Is there that much correlation between youth results and the senior teams? Maybe they’re an outlier, but Mali is always in the U20 World Cup but never makes the actual World Cup. CAF qualifying can be a crapshoot, but still there’s only like five different countries that ever qualify out of Africa, so why not the group that’s always winning the youth qualifiers?

There’s a bit correlation towards senior team success, especially if you look at the winners. Brazil and Argentina have won a bunch, France won in 2013, England in 2017 then found senior team success.

With African teams it’s harder because their qualifying format is so unforgiving. You have to win a group just to get to a playoff. Any injuries or bad form runs are magnified.

The first representative for CONCACAF at the 2024 Olympics will be the Dominican Republic after they beat Guatemala on kicks.

What a run for the Dominicans.

US up 2-0 30 minutes in on Honduras for the other spot (game is on FS1).

Until today, the Dominican Republic had not qualified for any FIFA tournament at any level (Senior, U20 or U17) or the CONCACAF Gold Cup, Men's or Women's. They've now qualified for the U20 World Cup and the Olympics.

US wraps up the CONCACAF U20 Championship by beating the Dominican Republic 6-0 and winning another CONCACAF title.

CONCACAF Women’s Championship started yesterday in Mexico. US beat Haiti 3-0, Jamaica “upset” Mexico 1-0 (I don’t know if it’s that much of an upset). Canada, Costa Rica, Panama, and T&T in the other group.

Win pretty much assures the USWNT is at least into the Intercontinental Playoffs as the top 2 teams in each group qualify for the World Cup while the third place teams go to the playoffs.

Winning team qualifies for the Olympics while the runner up and third place will play a playoff for the second spot.
