Dumb rules question- if a goal shooter is fouled after he shoots and the ball goes in, does anything count as a foul?

Watching Liverpool at ManU, and there was a really pretty goal, but the defender basically took the shooter down after he shot the ball. I've seen that yellow cards have been given for similar tackles. Of course, you can't award a free kick- the ball is in the net (advantage played). But can the defender be given a yellow card for that?

Fouls can only occur a) when the ball is in play and b) against an opponent (outside of offside and the keeper violations).

A caution can be given for something that advantage was applied on but it’d have to be for something considered reckless which the tackle you’re asking about wasn’t really reckless, at least at the professional level. If the player didn’t score then yeah it would’ve been a caution for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity in the penalty area while making an attempt to play the ball (and a penalty kick).

You can go back and give a card for a foul after you've let play go for an advantage call.

Thanks.

I assume a yellow card wasn't given because 1) he scored, and 2) the game has been quite clean- so there was no reason to call it close.

I completely forgot the US Open Cup games the last two nights.

Most MLS teams advanced, 13 of 17 to be exact, Detroit City beat Columbus, Omaha beat Chicago, San Antonio beat Austin, and Northern Colorado beat Salt Lake.

USL Championship teams, the purported second division, went 5-10 this last round compared to USL League One’s 4-4. Yikes.

Earthquakes beat Bay Cities FC 5-0. Now for the Earthquakes to bow out in the next round.

There's a new world record for attendance at a women's soccer match: 91,553 at Barcelona v Real Madrid in the UEFA Women's Champions League

(Barcelona Femeni won 5-2, 8-3 on aggregate. They've yet to lose or draw a match in all competitions this season.)
This record has now been bettered by Barcelona Femeni after 91,648 showed up for their semifinal leg against Wolfsburg. Barcelona won 5-1. They’ve yet to even draw a match this season and the only match they lost was a preseason match against Lyon in Portland (Lyon is in the other semifinal BTW).

Congratulations to kepler on the Fulham promotion ;-)

Thanks!

Second-best goal differential is 30. Fulham is 61 (99-38 in 43 matches 26-8-9)

Milton Keynes (a.k.a. Original Wimbledon) has a chance to get promoted from League One.

JFC League One is the graveyard of the Premier League. Look at all these former PL teams, some in the last decade:

MK Dons/AFC Wimbledon (depending on your views) (2000) (Sold, moved, Phoenix club)
Bolton (2012) (went into administration)
Charlton (2007)
Ipswich (2002)
Portsmouth (2010) (went into administration)
Sheffield Wednesday (2000)
Sunderland (2017)
Wigan (2013) (went into administration)

Portsmouth is League One? I thought they had gotten the financial equivalent of the death penalty?

BTW, did Celtic or the other one (Rangers?), whichever went t-ts up, make a comeback? I remember when that happened people like me were moaning that it had destroyed Scottish footie forever.

You might be thinking of Wigan, they went into administration last year which got them relegated to League One though they got bought by some Bahraini businessman and are now ok. Or Bury who did get expelled from the EFL back in 2020 and are basically dead.

TBF, Portsmouth have been dealing with financial difficulties for over a decade (they’re one of the many examples of clubs going into financial ruin trying to compete in the PL) though seem to be stable now that they’re owned by Michael Eisner of all people.

Rangers are back in the SPL and even won it last year. TBF, Scottish football has been ruined since the 80’s.
