Beyond the obvious racism:

Why would Costa Rica, the last CONCACAF team to play in a World Cup Quarterfinal, agree to that? They’ve qualified for four of the last five World Cups, they don’t need the help of every other Central American country to get there.

Why would Panama, Honduras, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago agree? They’ve all qualified for a World Cup in the last 25 years and with the field expanding they all stand a good chance of qualifying again.

I can understand wanting to do a West Indies team like it cricket, though even that has serious problems, but your suggestion is racist and dumb.

Here’s a hint: CONMEBOL doesn’t want the US or Mexico.

The CONMEBOL countries love the setup they have, they make good money, they don’t have to share and they don’t have the US Justice Department sniffing around. They’ll have invitees to fill out the field at Copa America, though after last year they may just skip on that too.

But they really don’t want CONCACAF clubs in the Copa Libertadores. Travel would be an absolute nightmare and there wouldn’t be anywhere near the amount of money brought in to offset that.

On a different subject, there seemed to be disagreement in the media today over whether Brenden Aaronson is injured and won't be available for World Cup Qualifying or if he was healthy and would be in camp to be evaluated.

Eventually it was decided that he had a slight MCL tear and will be out 3-6 weeks.

Oh, I understood where he was coming from. My original post was mostly a response asking why any of the countries involved would agree, especially Costa Rica who’s had more success recently than the US.

I happened to make a snarky comment on the obvious racial undertones, which are there whether he meant them or not, and Kep got super defensive about it. After the whataboutisms towards me I couldn’t help but needle him a bit.

That’s pretty much everyone not in UEFA or CONMEBOL, why do you think the “World Cup every two years” idea had so much traction?

I think the Nations League concept is at least a nice idea to have more competitive matches, at least for the smaller nations.

The game has become significantly more global in the last 30 years but the whole ecosystem hasn’t adapted as much. At least the World Cup field isn’t 70% UEFA and CONMEBOL these days (17 of 24 in the 1994 tournament).
