Not true.

Scotland v Ukraine postponed to June, Poland given a bye to Path B final.

Well, that decision looks it came yesterday, so it might’ve been true. But it was also coming from a translated Polish journalist’s tweet and I have no idea his view or angle or if something was lost in translation.

Somewhat surprised they didn’t call up the best eliminated team to fill the slot. If not for the $$$.

I saw the tweet. It was from a Polish journalist using a screenshot from some app somewhere. Yeah, it was baked in the possibility of being true (it is FIFA), but it was always a dubious claim.

Roman Abramovich has been sanction by the UK Government and his assets have been frozen, including Chelsea FC.

Chelsea has been given a "special licence" to continue "football activities". Restrictions include:

- No sale of the club without Government approval and no money can go to Abramovich

- No Transfers or Player sales

- No Merchandise sales

- No sale of tickets, only season ticket holders will be allowed to attend

The whole list is pretty woof:

They can:
  • Pay the wages, allowances and pensions of all employees of the Club, including players, coaching, corporate and administrative staff
  • Pay fees, dividends or other allowances to directors of the Club except Roman
  • Continue the payment necessary for the ongoing regular maintenance of the Club and the Club’s grounds, including rates, council tax, other taxes, insurance building safety inspection costs, energy costs and other maintenance costs associated with the maintenance of the Club’s ground and training grounds
  • Pay reasonable costs of travel to and from fixtures for players and essential staff including costs for security staff, travel agencies or contractors. These costs include travel, accommodation and subsistence costs, but may not exceed ?20,000 per game
  • Make payments for the hosting of fixtures, including security, stewarding, emergency services and catering, not exceeding the value of ?500,000 per fixture
  • Sell food and drink at Stamford Bridge during fixtures
  • Continue to make inter-club payments for existing player loan and sale agreements
  • Receive payments from match broadcasts
  • Receive fees from EFA, PL, and UEFA for league performance
  • Continue to sell existing merchandise through third parties (eg Nike) where they already have a contract
  • Be sold to a new owner with a special dispensation, provided Roman does not benefit financially from it
They cannot:
  • Sell merchandise through the Chelsea physical or online stores
  • Produce new merchandise unless there was an existing agreement pre-sanction
  • Sell new tickets to home or away matches. Existing ticket holders can continue to attend, including season ticket holders and those who have already purchased a ticket
  • Pay for new stadium capital works or refurbishments
  • Buy, sell, loan, transfer, or otherwise enter any agreement for players (current players cannot be recontracted, and new players cannot be bought)
  • Sign or recontract sponsorships
The key part in the licence: "Any funds which the Club receives must be frozen due to the asset freeze on (Roman)". While Chelsea will continue to receive revenue from existing agreements, they cannot use it.

The current licence to operate is effective immediately until May, after which it expires. It can be reviewed and renewed again.

Surprising they can get away with this in one of the most liberal and activists cities in the country.

Though TBH I have partied with the Timbers Army and culturally they are, ahem, unrepresentative of the city.
Oh, I’m sure they’ll state their displeasure with some wonderfully colored protest tifo, while they continue to spend money on tickets and concessions.

Or they’ll write a sternly worded letter.

Portland fans and the TA don’t have the fortitude to do what they should do: Stop giving the fucker money by buying tickets and leave the stands empty.

Tried to watch Red Bulls/MN United. But, it was just terrible soccer by everyone.
I watched part of that, yeah it was just bad. Probably doesn’t help that it was like 30 degrees.

A lot of bad matches this weekend all around. Seattle-LAG was sloppy, Atlanta-Charlotte was not great, sloppy matches in the PL, Chivas-Club America was a boring 0-0.

I wonder if the tight schedule because of the pandemic and the upcoming World Cup is effecting things?

In the dumbest move of the weekend, Atlanta supporters created a tifo to their owner.

Edit: I actually don't know what's worse, the actual tifo to a billionaire or the Atlanta bootlickers online defending the tifo AND Blank.

Saturday's NE/RSL match.

In a stunning example of USMNT Twitter stupidity (and, well, general Twitter stupidity), it was asserted that Matt Turner (GK for New England) has been out of action because of second degree frostbite from the Honduras game. Not, as has been widely reported, an ankle injury picked up in preseason training.

It got so bad an Antarctic researcher had to explain the extremely low chances of that being true.

By the skin of the away goals rule, NYCFC advances to the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals over Communicaciones. Despite the Pigeons being up 2-1 on the night, 5-2 on aggregate, Communicaciones scored three goals to go up 4-2, 5-5 on aggregate, but they needed a fourth.

Watching Pumas v New England and I'd forgotten that Pumas stadium is the stadium from the 1968 Olympics. On the other side of the stadium from the camera is the pit where Bob Beamon set his world record.

New England blows a three goal lead, loses to Pumas in kicks.

Another example of the big weakness of Bruce Arena, if the game doesn't go according to plan, he has no idea what to do next. See also: 2006 World Cup, any road game he had in CONCACAF, and Couva 2017.
