Goal difference should top out at +5. Above that is dumb, whether you realize it or not.
I’ve worked tournaments where the goal difference is limited and it doesn’t work as well as you think it would, teams typically don’t stop scoring. Inevitably you end up with someone getting eliminated because of a garbage time goal dropping their GD when in reality they should’ve been well out of reach.

Also, this is the full international level, they can’t just throw in the backups because they’re limited to five subs and we can’t expect full international teams to spend 70+ minutes “working on their fundamentals”.

Just eliminate these teams with earlier rounds

End the game when it goes +5.

Curious on where this outbreak for Spurs came from?

The Philadelphia Union was seemingly related to African players returning from international duty, specifically Cameroon, but Spurs have zero African players on their squad.

The only thing I'll say about the MLS Cup Final is that I've been rolling my eyes hard at this general consensus that everyone must root for Portland because NYCFC is owned by City Football Group and the Yankees and therefore are evil while Portland is all and right and just.

Completely ignoring the fact that Timbers owner Merritt Paulson and Timbers GM Gavin Wilkinson actively covered up sexual harassment by a former coach for the Portland Thorns AND allowed said coach to be hired by another NWSL club and continue sexually harassing players. And yes Wilkinson is still the Timbers GM despite this.

Also completely ignoring the fact that Paulson is the son of former Goldman Sachs CEO Henry Paulson who served as Secretary of the Treasury under George W. Bush. Remember the guy who bailed out the banks and AIG after undoubtedly contributing to said crisis? Yup, Paulson's dad. Guess where lil' Merritt got his money to buy the Timbers?

And hey, let's also ignore his leadership in attempting to stamp out the Timbers Army's ability to display the Iron Front flag and getting PO'd at the TA for protesting. Or breaking a concession union at the stadium when he bought the Timbers and the old MiLB team. Or the fact he really wanted to own an MLB team but eventually settled for his silver medal in the Timbers.

Portland and NYCFC both suck (it's one of the few occasions where this meme actually applies) but to paraphrase Charles Barkley: "If Portland was playing Afghanistan I'd root for Afghanistan."

tl;dr Seattle fan hates Portland, lists a bunch of **** you won't read.

Cold and rain. We were born of this.

I have seen so many games there, and I gotta tell you that I have never been to a more uncomfortable venue, even on a bright sunny day. It's a concrete pit abutted to a four floor gym. But it's also the best crowd I've seen outside of Lynah, in any sport at any level.

Good luck, lads. Make the Army proud. Bring it home where it belongs -- America's soccer Mecca.

Not that it should be a contest, as I was joking around. But soccer in MN dates back to 1888 at least. If you go by Newspaper coverage, then its only 1906.

I was joking too (after all, there is no comparison -- I guess Brooklyn might have an argument). But nervously because I do not like how loose we are on D right now. I appreciate the forays, but it only takes one good counter...

Timbers Army: Releases pink smoke to protest the ownership covering up sexual assault.

Also Timbers Army: Allows themselves to be featured in advertising to benefit said ownership.
