What's the name of that web based soccer game a lot of us used to play? Forgetting the name is bothering me today.

Hattrick. Every once in a while I get an email asking me to restart my club. I miss the game but when I found myself forgetting to set lineups I knew it was time to walk away and not sure I'd have the time to give the attention now either.

I tried getting back into it 6 months ago or so. It's gotten a lot more complex. Gave up after a week.

I'm surprised that game is still running.

I liked when they added the youth academy feature or whatever it was called - not sure how far it's gone since then but I have to imagine it's expanded quite a bit the past decade. I had a few apps on my computer to help predict results and set lineups at the time but I can't even find time to play the PS4 I bought for the kids (not 1 single minute on it in 3 years) so as much as I'd like to pick it up again I don't see it happening.

I’ve gotten back into it, though I just do the bare minimum to get by. Things I’ve noticed:

1. It is stupidly more complex than before or necessary. Skill training and how skills contribute to ratings is ridiculous. GKs require training in defense and set pieces. Why? You have to completely flip your training for weeks to train what should be useless skills.

2. Player numbers are way down. Division VI in the USA was recently cut because numbers were so low, so many bots. Even V has plenty of bots.

I keep trying to go back and search and find the old hattrick cafe threads but can never find them. I got back into it about a year and a half ago maybe. It's very different but still the same in a lot of ways. They have a decent app now. They've lost a lot of users from their heyday but still very difficult to do well in IV and above.

I'm kind of just grinding in autopilot mode to stuff the coffers and look to make a run in a few years maybe IDK. I've enjoyed back into it.

I feel like our clubs squared off a few months ago. Pretty sure.

Wolves / Leicester has been a barn burner.

Chelsea gave up on this season awhile ago. Man City is embarrassing them. 4-0 in 25 minutes.

They're 1 point out of an ECL slot, right?

Edit: Jesus f-ck, I just looked at the table more closely. The Noisy Neighbors have a +54 goal differential in 27 games.

Also Spurs should get some sort of American award if they can hold out for the rest of the season. They have 0 draws.

Always fascinating watching the opening games of the CONCACAF Champions League.

Toronto got greased by Independiente of Panama 4-0 (methinks the dynasty at TFC has faded quickly and that's why Giovinco left).

Houston and the Red Bulls picked up wins on the road. Demarcus Beasley is not only still playing for Houston but also scored.

The Sporks beat Toluca of Mexico 3-0, at home though (and Toluca being 15th in Liga MX a factor too). Still, a nice win.

Atlanta United celebrated their MLS Cup by losing to Herediano of Costa Rica 3-1. They looked... not good.

you're being very kind to Giovinco to say he left...when it was more he was pushed out because they didn't really want to pay him anymore.

Which is a boneheaded decision by MLSE considering their offense (wait, it’s Canada, offence) was basically Gio. And TFC’s defense is getting worse by the minute.

Though it will be fun see TFC suck again.

Also, the reactions out of Atlanta after their loss are hilarious. All that money and they lose in Costa Rica like everyone else. I’d hope after experiencing the beautiful disaster that is CONCACAF officiating (and I say that as a referee myself) that the ATL fans will better appreciate MLS officiating but I know they won’t.

Update:

TFC couldn’t even win at home and are out. But hey! 538 has them predicted top 3 in the East! (They won’t make the playoffs).

Houston and the Red Bulls moved on, though Houston needed a late goal.

The Sporks finished off Toluca winning 2-0 in Toluca. The Toluca fans gave the Sporks the Ole! chant. That’s one of the most insulting things fans in Mexico can do to their team. Conversely, it’s a career highlight for any away team (especially an American one). Don’t get too excited though, Toluca is hot garbage.

Atlanta won 4-0 at home and moved on. Apparently home field matters in CONCACAF, who knew?

MLS Season starts Saturday. FC Cincinnati is the new team this year so obviously they play Seattle. The Galaxy right now have 4 Designated Players signed and have until Midnight to get down to 3 or basically lose one of them. Minnesota United will open a sweet new stadium this season.
