Formerly Burma. I had a roommate for a semester back at GVSU. Bastard cocked blocked me one morning when the girlfriend was over visiting me. Dude did not get the concept of the laptop could be used downstairs. He was **** lucky he didn't get a Borat style Beatdown.
Yes, I know it's formerly Burma. Just saying that's not a country you would expect to make any noise in the world of soccer, even in a region as weak as Asia.

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

True story, it's not formerly Burma. The new name is disputed. So only some countries recognize it, and others still call them Burma.

/uselessfacts :D

Everything I've seen has the players saying they either get free agency or they're going to strike. But we haven't heard lately except that they've brought a mediator in for negotiations.

I'm not too kean on a work stoppage but this time is really the only time the players will have leverage to get needed changes done.

Good luck trying to get the SG off the ground though! Cool to hear. What's the name of it?

The sg is called the "Stout Street Bulldogs". it's a formation of the old Bulldog supporters Group out of the British Bulldog pub. The pub is on Stout St. in downtown Denver.

2022: "Hello, and welcome to a spectacular day on FOX. We begin with your local NFL game at 1, followed by America's Game of the Week between the Cowboys and Giants at 4. Stick with us, because at 8 we'll have the USA's first group game of the World Cup live from Doha."

Well, if you want to attract new viewers, you can't really come up with a better lead-in...

The MLS season has started, somewhat. Montreal took on Pachuca in the CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinals and drew 2-2 at Pachuca. DC United plays on Thursday.

So NYFC and Orlando are MLS starting now? Or are they still waiting?

Also, I didn't think Kaka was that old that he needed to come stateside for a job.

I'm waiting for an over the hill Messi and Ronaldo to come over. :D I think Drogba should of been ready 3 yrs ago.

NYCFC and Orlando start this year. Houston and SKC moved to the West to accommodate, meaning anything important happening will be out west.

Kaka seems pretty * happy in Orlando from what I've seen. Dude seems to want to compete hard as well.

So apparently Sky Sports in the UK will be broadcasting MLS games? That's a pretty interesting development...

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

Liverpool finally starting to come around. maybe too little too late, but nice to see, if you're me.

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

I guess no one can bitch at us for not watching MLS if they don't have a season! :D

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

Well, looks like a lock-out is happening, since the owner's proposal for free agency would only make one person eligible.

I thought that was an initial offer to induce the players' union to respond with a counter-proposal: acceptance of an "age + years of service" formula by both sides would be significant, moving them from "if" to "how" regarding the details.

I can understand both sides' positions here.

FA is always the same song and dance. Owners can't control themselves so they try to control the players.

It does amaze me how a league with a hard cap can struggle so much with the thought of free agency...other than the potential lack of interest in american players, the one big advantage that MLS players have over other major leagues in the US is that there are potentially greener pastures elsewhere.

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

I understand that soccer leagues in other parts of the world may have different policies regarding free agents, but how did an American league not have free agency to begin with? It amazes me something so ingrained in American sport was left out. I know MLS was 20 years ago, but still, Curt Flood and all those cases were already 20 years old at that point.

In fact, reading up on it more, the other three major leagues joined in creating a free agency policy right around when MLS was founded. Did MLS just think they could sneak it under the radar, it worked, and now 20 years later they're finally going "welp, ya caught us!"?
