Re: World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

In honor of the Seattle Sounders, Salt Lake is losing 5-0 to LA.

Re: World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

Disappointing not to see Emerson Hyndman called in for a friendly at his home club stadium.

Re: World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

Seattle and Dallas tie 0-0. Seattle invents advancing on away goals.

Eastern Final: New York v New England
Western Final: Seattle v LA.

Re: World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

So Seattle advances on away goals and now there is plenty of talk about the rule and how terrible it is that Seattle advanced without winning a game.

Now, there is some legitimate points being raised but, I feel a lot of this talk is happening because Seattle advanced. A lot of the complaining wouldn't be going on if Dallas had advanced.

Re: World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

It wouldn't be the Sounders if they weren't *****ing about everyone conspiring against them. Tell me again how you got Clint Dempsey on your team?

That. Is. Hilarious. You could go on the road with that routine!

Wait, you might even believe that! Priceless!

It's not thinking everybody's conspiring against us, it's that people are *ing about the away goals rule and I just think there would less *ing if Seattle hadn't advanced.

People complain about the away goals rule every single time a team advances with a draw at home and a higher-scoring draw on the road. Then everyone says "it's still better than penalties" and the conversation ends. Sorry to break it to you, but it's not all about you.

You're probably right. Just seems this way to me...

Re: World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

To be fair, if Seattle had been eliminated, there'd be a lot of *ing from Seattle.

Re: World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

Should countries boycott the Qatar world cup?

I liked the suggestion in one of the comments to the article MBO posted: the major Football Associations instead stage their own tournament.

As a backup plan, I still think that the best 'compromise' would be to keep the WC in its usual calendar window and play all the games either late at night or early in the morning before sunrise.
