World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

So they're trying to market themselves and make money?

Their marketing style is basically negative political campaign meets heel wrestler. It comes across as petulant, and often seems like making money is secondary to giving management a soapbox to stand on. I don't dislike them as the fan of a rival, I dislike them in the way a consumer dislikes any company that sets off our innate red flags about smarmy businessmen.

Ok, fair enough.

Yeah their whole approach is to convince people they are literally the same team that had Pele and Beckenbauer and co. that just happened to take a 30 year break in the same league that just happened to take a 30 year break. The operation is a shady business operated by shady people who are, unfortunately, influencing the way the NASL is run.

I think it's that they're trying to build themselves up as something more than what they are, and it that process are *in up the US Soccer system.

It always seemed like a confidence game in that the cosmos were awesome and must be awesome... Who are you to deny awesome, hater.

Because, let's face it. None of them would ever just say "yeah, it's a relic of the past and finishing in the middle is reasonably acceptable"... No, they'd want to be a super gorilla, eat all the food, and toss around everybody and be whiny with anything less

And then the Cosmos and Traffic Sports (who owns at least one NASL team) add to the confidence game by influencing how the league is run: It's not really a D2 League, it's an MLS competitor and they're different from MLS and that makes them great! And if it wasn't for US Soccer holding them back...

And in real news, New England beats Columbus 4-2 in Columbus. With the Away Goals tiebreaker in effect this year, that's a mighty hole for the Crew.

to be fair, my version is the case if they were ever in the MLS... but yes, essentially that. MLS must stay away from Cosmos... its a cancer and they're already having issues with their designated players stuff.

With the way Designated Players have evolved from "Beckham" to "if you prove it, we'll pay you" it's becoming less of a cancer and I'm sure a lot of issues will be resolved in the upcoming CBA. DPs are now players who have proven their worth in the league (Gonzalez, Besler, Alonso in Seattle) or Americans who have come back (Dempsey and Bradley).

I think New England is the team to beat in the East. I don't know if they can get past LA or Seattle (even though they beat Seattle in the regular season).

Seattle and Dallas tie 1-1.

New York beats DC 2-0.

Big away goal for the Sounders.

Re: World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

It gets even better. http://screamer.deadspin.com/report...an-slave-labor-to-build-f-1656020284/+Tom_Ley

The Guardian found North Korean construction workers at four different construction sites in Lusail City, where the 2022 World Cup final will be held. The workers were apparently sent to Qatar, where they work without pay, through a North Korean government program that promises to pay them in their native currency once they return home. But workers and other defectors familiar with these kinds of programs say the workers will be lucky to receive a fraction of the money they were promised

Re: World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

For some reason your comment brought to mind a Women's World Cup in which all the players are wearing burkas....

Ha. I was hoping they'd decide to try to blow up the opulent Qatari stadiums instead of fighting for pieces of Syria and Iraq. However, FIFA would still think it's a better choice than us or England.
