Lots of kvetching about how lame penalties are for deciding matches still tied after extra time. If only that kvetching would be as loud when people are talking to the NHL.
What about this for an idea? Alternating corner kicks. A few rules.
* Coin flip determines who chooses on going first or second, coin flip loser determines which side of the field they are on.
* First corner is taken from the side of the field with benches.
* The team taking the corner kick keeps control of play until such time as the defense would be awarded a goal kick, throw-in, or free kick, or until the defense moves the ball past the center line.
- That is, if the team taking the corner kick earns another corner, or a throw-in or free kick, that then occurs.
* Sudden death. If you lose the flip and the other team scores on their first corner opportunity, tough ****. Learn to handle corners better.
* No subs.
It's not perfect, but it's more of a "decide it the way the game's played" method than shooter vs. goalkeeper.
