Re: World Soccer XXIX: Pro/Rel USA! just kidding!

Have you watched the games in 2018 or this WC? Referees aren’t going to give cautions very often, FIFA wants 22 on the field and no silly suspensions.

If we're not going to play by the rules then why bother having them?

Also, they gave a silly yellow to Rapinoe for an accident. But the referees aren't going to call those...

2-1 the final.

Not the prettiest result, but the Friday match is set. USA v France. Must see TV

Re: World Soccer XXIX: Pro/Rel USA! just kidding!

Are you watching?

The referee finally produces a yellow after 14 fouls.

Carli Lloyd is the first US sub. Alex Morgan is off without scoring today.

I saw a lot of rough play and I saw a lot of US diving.

I did enjoy Spain going ballistic after not getting that foul in the box in stoppage, though. That would have been hysterical.

On to France.

FIFA could just change the silly card accumulation rule...

Olympic rematch.
Sweden defeats Canada and will play Germany on Saturday.

Re: World Soccer XXIX: Pro/Rel USA! just kidding!

Unsurprisingly there’s only one non-European team in the Quarterfinals right now.

Even though I picked Sweden, I still had Canada as the favorite in that one.

I also have China tomorrow, but that's mostly because I figured there's gotta be at least one upset. I'm pretty sure it'll be Italy and the Netherlands the way the Italians have been playing.

according to 538, China over Italy wouldn't be an upset.

Haiti up 2-1 on Costa Rica with 10 minutes left...

Re: World Soccer XXIX: Pro/Rel USA! just kidding!

And Haiti wins 2-1.

Costa Rica in the Gold Cup is a shining example of home field advantage in CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying.

Why on earth do you say that? Costs Rica rotated like half their squad including starting Francisco Calvo at CB which as a Minnesota fan I know is a disaster...

Costa Rica’s home record in Qualifying for the last two World Cups is 11-1-4, the lone loss being to Mexico in the Third Round in 2012. Since the 2013 Gold Cup they’re 7-5-4 in the Gold Cup, making the Semis once.

Costa Rica can qualify for the World Cup regularly, only missing in 2010 by losing a playoff against Uruguay, because of their crazy home field advantage almost guaranteeing them 12 points. Put them in a neutral site in the Gold Cup and they inevitably fold.
