Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

Would it surprise anyone to see Mexico lose 4-0 in New Zealand? I mean, this is Mexico...

Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

Because Americans play to win all the time. I wouldn't give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed.
The more important question is why couldn't panama hold the lead? If the US needed that game and was up 2-1, they go into a shell and protect the lead. Panama kept attacking.

Amen, brotha.

Plus, watching the Mexican media kiss the USMNTs arse was totally worth it.

Like I said before, I'm not a fan of tanking games out of spite. You mess with the soccer gods too much with this. If you put out a B-team, that's ok, but I get why we kept fighting. It's good practice for when we do need it.

True, one of the best compliments I've ever heard about US Soccer was that they literally are one of if not the best team in stoppage time. There is just something about stepping up their game in the final moments when they need it.

Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

1st leg of the remaining UEFA qualifiers are complete

Ukraine beat France 2-0
Iceland drew Croatia 0-0
Greece beat Romania 3-1
Portugal beat Sweden 1-0

All the higher seeds & home teams won except for Croatia vs Iceland where Iceland was at home but drew to the higher seed.
Anything but a 0-0 draw or loss in Croatia and Iceland advances!

Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

I have no doubt that Ibra will score 7 goals in the return leg to eliminate Portugal.

Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

I wonder how quickly Ukrainian players will get ejected in leg 2. Interesting to see what Platini's orders are.

If leg 2 of Iceland/Croatia ends 0-0 after 90 minutes, don't they play an OT and if still 0-0, PKs????

They do, but the point is that a 0-0 doesn't specifically advance either team. The rest of it comes down to a great deal of luck.
