Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

Nobody cares.

No one cares about the President's Trophy in the NHL. Sure it's nice to have, but people only care about Cups. Don't hate that the Cosmos won a title. RBNY is just a soulless team that's losing fans left and right. (I know a bunch of former Metro fans that have move on after the rebrand.) Look at Seattle and Portland. Those places are electric. The stadium in Harrison is like being at a soccer version of an Islanders game. The Metros were on the right path at least by acknowledging the past. However, RBNY failed to capitalize and continues to reach for over-the-hill gang. Henry has played well, but you guys can't get the job done. I refuse to root for NYC FC because of the Al-Citeh and Yankee connection. The Cosmos have a connection and should've been the second MLS team in NYC. I know you complain about it being a money grab by the guy who owns the rights, but who cares. He should've gotten paid because the Red Bull brand is not working. Buying stars to try to win titles doesn't work all the time.

Nobody cares because it's a merchandising gimmick playing in a minor league. The President's Trophy isn't even a proper analogy since that's a regular season title and the Soccer Bowl (is that really what they call it?) is a playoff title. Nobody cares like nobody cares who won the Calder Cup (if the Calder Cup had no history). The Cosmos have a "connection" in that some guy held the trademark for a long time waiting until someone met his price to use the name. There's no connection to the original team except a bunch of people who want to make money just like the first time around. It's entirely a money grab.

And what does "the Red Bull brand is not working" even mean? Red Bull own the team and spent a crapload of money to build a stadium and improve the team far beyond where they ever were under the previous owners. You're suggesting that if the owners had met Pinton's ransom to use the Cosmos name, the team would be better? That's absurd. Obviously buying stars to try to win a title doesn't work all the time, but that has nothing to do with any Cosmos/NYCFC/Red Bull/Metro issues, and in any case you don't seem to have any problem with it when it's the Cosmos. Do you even understand that buying stars to try to win a title is the entire essence of that franchise's history?

Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

Well Jordan is as good as out, not that they ever had much of a chance. Uruguay just took them to the woodshed, 5-0, in Amman.

And comparing the Supporters Shield to the Presidents Trophy is dumb considering the Supporters Shield got the Red Bulls a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League. All the Cosmos got was a trophy and a "heh".

Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

Looks like the Suraez Racism Tour will make it to Brazil.
huh, I never heard of the incident before and looked into Uruguay, I had no idea it was so "white." 85 to 96% of Uruguay is of "European" decent from mostly Spain and Italy.

Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

New Zealand needs to get an away goal today even if they end up losing the match. It would really help them with advancing if they needed a second leg win.

Unless away goals no longer matter. Then forget what I said. :)

Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

Well evidently the game is Azteca is now New Zealand-Club America after they chose not to select any European players.

And it's now 1-0 America.

Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

New Zealand keeper is the only reason they are hanging around in this game

They need to generate some possessions in the Mexican end to even stand a chance...

Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

*sigh*. Why couldn't we just lose to Panama?
