Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

So breathing on a Panama player is a foul, but misdemeanor assault on a US player is OK? Makes sense.

I like Gus, I don't like Wynalda.

He had some real gems yesterday. Did you know that both teams wanted to win that game? You can't get that kind of insight just anywhere.

I was waiting for the ref to award a PK in the final minutes of regulation to give Panama a chance for the equalizer. I bet the poor guy gets the riot act read to him by the folks at CONCACAF.

Wasn't that the same ref that did the snow bowl earlier this year?

Not to make too many excuses for Gus, but I think he has to try to get Wynalda to try to explain things to casual fans that might be just casual fans to soccer. He has brushed up on his knowledge since he got the gig, but that may be why he's having to dumb things down.

And the ref will be doing youth league games in Port-au-Prince for not carrying out his assignment.

Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

Well he did successfully let Panama get away with everything short of a studs up tackle, while chastising the US for every little infraction.

For how much he kept the cards in his pocket, he really called a lopsided game.

I like Gus. For a relative newbie to soccer he has picked it up quick and I love his enthusiasm for the game. Wynalda drives me up the wall. I hope Fox finds someone else for the booth.

I agree with you on that. Gus doesn't have the knowledge Wynalda has and that's why he's asking questions. I love John Harkes and Kyle Martino, but they have other gigs.

Taylor Twellman has shown promise on the Revolution telecasts and he has split duties between Comcast Sports and ESPN. When their deal with soccer expires maybe he can go to Fox.

Bah. You're all nuts. Wynalda is fantastic.

I don't much care for Harkes, but I've been impressed with Martino.

Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

Anybody else see this??

MLS announces plans to go to 24 teams by 2020.

Would love to see Detroit get one of the new franchises. Wouldn't be all that big of a deal for them to partner up with say Wayne State to redo their football stadium to build it up into a nice 20,000+ stadium. Then again, I could just as easily see em having the stadium up in Oakland County somewhere, perhaps at the Silverdome if they ever get that remodeling project that's been kicked around for that done.

The Twin Cities would also be on my short list of places to have a franchise.

I'm for whatever brings back a completely balanced schedule.

No wait, we have to have atlantic, central, midwest, and pacific divisions like every other sport.
