Agreed, but it still doesn't make up for losing out on the World's biggest tourney to a French team that was so apathetic.
I'd say this decision plus your incessant whining makes up for it.

To be fair (and maybe Europeans would see it differently) but the making the Euros is not as special as making the WC. Not by a long shot.

And this from a guy who makes a special point to NOT wear green on St. Party's day.

Probably in the minority once again, but three game suspension for Rooney? Give me a break with this crap. Should be one at the most.

Partially agree. Think 3 might be a bit harsh. But it certainly should have been one. That's the punishment a red card carries. No way it could have been less.

I'd give him 1 or 2 matches. 3 is harsh...even for the rag bastard shrek.

Rooney did show contrition and I thought it would get him 1 or 2, but 3 is harsh.

Fun stat on Football Weekly this week: Of the last 10 England players to receive a red card, 8 of them have played for United.

It's almost they aren't used to playing with neutral referees or something. :D

Or Sir Alex has signed 2.4 Lions.

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

I just wanted to mention...a year ago the football world lost a legend in Malcolm Allison. "Big Mal" and Joe Mercer were co-managers of the great City teams in the late 60s and early 70s. Allison was one of the most colorful figures in the sport and is still missed. A Manchester City Legend and a true great in football.

RIP Big Mal...Gone...but Never Forgotten.

Henry red card today. Doesn't look like much. At the same time, I can totally see him as being the type of guy who would try to make that look like an accident.

Looks like Henry made a bee-line for the guy. I can't tell how much contact he made; he might have pulled out of it at the last minute, or he might have gotten in a nice kidney shot, but either way, I totally buy the decision by Stott to send him off.

Not at all, didn't mean to give that impression.

Unless you told me to take a helicopter, there was no advice that could have a avoided the traffic.

Jetpack?

After watching the EPL review, Newcastle-Tottenham gets my vote for match of the weekend.

While Mario Balotelli's goal was brilliant...I give the goal of the week to James Milner. Started the build up with a 60 yard ball across the pitch to Johnson then his finish was absolutely gorgeous...left Given flat footed.

Hopefully no more than a load of BS and classic speculative insanity out of the English media. Even still, it wouldn't surprise me if someday a bunch of the Euro glamour clubs decided to pick up their ball and form their own superleague so that they don't have to fight domestic FAs to do something like this.

That story doesn't make sense on a variety of levels, particularly when one considers who the foreign owned teams are. Sure, Fulham and QPR might be relegation candidates, but Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Aston Villa? Not what I think of as clubs in danger of relegation.

I think it's equally likely that one of the more unscrupulous British owners (Gartside at Bolton, Whelan at Wigan) is the one pushing this, and trying to pawn it off on "the foreigners". With a media that is all too happy to oblige, of course.

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

Statement from Aston Villa asks Bevan to please confirm if he meant to specifically include Aston Villa in his surprising and confusing remarks.

From my perspective, Lerner has done many things since buying the club that demonstrate respect for the club, league, tradition etc. I highly doubt that a mid-table team that has been decidedly un-american in its demeanor is part of the unnamed crowd trying to eliminate relegation.
