It's being reported (mainly just in tweets for the time being) that 5 Mexicans on the Gold Cup roster (Ochoa, Maza Rodriguez, Bernudez, Sinha, Duenas) failed a doping test by testing positive for clenbuterol and have been removed from the roster. Early reports blame tainted chicken.

Not quite the same as "Tainted Love", but you can still dance to it.

They should stop eating chicken laced with steroids.

In the meantime, 7 Cuban players have allegedly realized that this Communism thing isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Edit: Now Univision is saying the Cuban team is still all there.

I'm watching Kansas City-Chicago right now. The ref just sprayed a line to mark 10 yards on a free kick. Looks like it evaporates pretty quickly. When did MLS start doing this? I've never seen it before.

Just started this season but has been used for many years in Brazil and Argentina. It's basically shaving cream that washes away fairly quickly.

I think it's great because twice so far this year I've seen the refs give yellows for players not adhering to the line. The ten yard distance is actually enforced now!

How sad is it that a guy like Ashley Young can be playing at a club as prestigious as Aston Villa, and still decide that he needs to change clubs simply because he wants to "play at a higher level"? Thats the sort of reality that says that AVFC is just a farm club.

(I know that this has been going on for a few seasons, if not decades, so it's hardly news. It's just still kind of sad to think that that is what soccer has come to in Europe: about 20 "real" clubs and a bunch of farm teams)

I don't suppose you know any Russians with an interest in pocket giraffes?

Thanks. I like it.

Had I more time, that is exactly what I was going to point out...this isn't a guy from the Royals going to the Yankees.

I know there is playoff income for players in US sports...do the players make that much more money if the team is in champions league? Is it really a case where a guy who plays in EPL and for his national team 'needs' to play at a higher level? Or is that just the sound bite to avoid looking like a merc?

I wonder what MLS/USL teams they show up on if they did defect? :D

Actually, wouldn't they might be likely to end up somewhere in Europe perhaps???

Here's a did you know.... Did you know that the first qualifying match for the 2014 World Cup is this week?

14 June 2011 Montserrat v Belize (Malabar, Trinidad and Tobago)
19 June 2011 Belize v Montserrat (Belmopan, Belize)

Montserrat still has a soccer team? They barely have an island. 2/3 of it is covered in ash.

Re: Norwich City back in the Premier League!

Didn't take much notice of Ancelotti getting the boot at Chelsea until he became a frontrunner at Aston Villa...aside from the headline "fired after two successful years" what is the deal with Carlo? Good manager? Did he bring Torres in or was that the owner? From a distance I thought the Drogba/Torres thing did indicate some people over there weren't on the same page.

Haven't been following as closely as I'd like, but what gives here? I don't understand why he was fired. Anyway, I also thought Drogba was the best striker in the EPL? What happened to him?

Re: Norwich City back in the Premier League!

The expectation for a Chelsea manager is to win the Champions League, he didn't, he was fired. Bit harsh? Sure. At the same time, I'm not sure how I feel about the some of paeans to poor poor Carlo I've read. He knew what he was getting into, and he's walking away with a nice chunk of change as well.

Who do we tar and feather for losing to Panama at home?
