Frankly, the best thing that can happen at this point is the US nets itself another shameful loss and gathers the will to replace Bradley. If they run into Mexico, it's going to be a lot of "Cinco a Cero" chants until World Cup qualifying.

Re: World Soccer XX: I paid Jack Warner $1M for the right to start this thread

Chicharito has more goals in this tournament than the entire United States team.

What will the attendance at Gillette Stadium be tonight, going up against Game 7 of the Stanley Cup with the Bruins playing? 500? 1000? Friends and families of the players?

Could be including this ball-less wonder over on HF.

So this girl I met a few months ago is some really big soccer fan who acts like hockey doens't even exist. We made plans weeks ago to go the Revolution game tonight at Gillette. In the back of my head I figured the hockey season would be over by June 15 so I agreed to go with her. Then when the SCF schedule came out I prayed that the B's could wrap it up in 6. Now I'm stuck in a position where I either go the Revs game and miss the biggest Bruins game in my life or tell her I can't go and risk losing her. What am I supposed to do?

It's followed by 120ish responses including

Screw her

as in forget about the frigging soccer game, not literally screw her...but if you can make both can happen, right on.

by a female, no less.

and

Seriously, you need to watch game 7. She can watch it with you - she'll recognize some elements of soccer from one of the teams anyway.

Have fun at the futbol game and we'll send someone by to pick up your man card at a later date

take whatever money it would likely have cost you to wine and dine this femme fatale and lay it on the canucks to win.

then watch the bruins game. if they win. well you saw them win congrats you made the right decision and it only cost you the same amount it would have to take this lady out. plus you can go out and find some girl whose in the mood to get down after the game. everyone knows bruins winning the cup is the ultimate aphrodisiac.

if the bruins lose though you go collect your winnings and pay for the only reason your even contemplating the girl or the game.
This is either:

a) a fake post

b) a kid so young he has no clue either way

c) the only guy alive that makes the Sedins look manly

I finally watched last night's game on DVR and I think the ship has sailed on Bradley. You should be Guadelope by more than a single goal. I think getting Jurgen Klinnsman on speed dial is a top priority.

Re: World Soccer XX: I paid Jack Warner $1M for the right to start this thread

If Bradley does go, and it's still a decent sized if at this point, I think an actual, honest to goodness manager search is top priority.

I'll put you on the spot, who would you want to coach the U.S.? (Realistic candidates we think we can get.)

I don't know, it's not that I have a problem with Klinnsman or anything, I just hate that after the 2010 World Cup, Gulati only managed to even consider two candidates, Bradley and Klinnsman. That's ludicrous. If Bradley does go, USSF ought to take some time, interview candidates, and be willing to give up some control. Automatically handing it to Klinnsman would be as dumb as sticking with Bradley.

I'd go with Kreis or Kinnear, personally.

I'm opposed to Klinsi. I'm not impressed with his resume and I'm even less impressed with his failure to catch on anyplace else after being fired by Bayern.

Kreis or Kinnear are good coaches, but I don't think they are big enough names. They need someone with somewhat of a name value to draw more people in, IMHO.

Most non/casual-fans couldn't tell you the name of the coach regardless and no one watched the last World Cup because of the coach.

Kreis would be okay, a little inexperienced for me. Not at all convinced about Kinnear.

A Kreis-Klinsmann combo would be acceptable to me.

I don't buy it. A big name might draw more TV eyes for the first match or two but beyond that it'll be about performance regardless of who the coach is.

Premier League fixtures out.

Someone must have confused the two Manchester teams. City opening with a promoted side at home? That's usually United's privilege.

Other PL news, McLeish to Villa is official.

That MacLeish to Villa thing boggles my mind more than a little bit.

Your Big 4 matches in the first half of the season are thus:
Man United v. Arsenal —*(weekend of) Aug. 27
Man United v. Chelsea —*Sept. 17
Man United v. Man City —*Oct. 22
Chelsea v. Arsenal —*Oct. 29
Chelsea v. Man City —*Dec. 10
Man City v. Arsenal —*Dec. 17

By the way, for those looking for hooliganism with a side of rioting, West Ham is at Millwall the weekend of 17th September, with the return fixture the first weekend in February.

The manager saga at Villa has to be a contender for ESPY for "Most complicated cluster****, lasting almost a full year".

If you drew it up a year ago today and said MON would resign days before the season started, they'd not give the role to his assistant but instead to a 63 year old French guy with heart trouble and no current manager's role, who then goes down with an aortic aneurism, and not give the role to his assistant but instead apparently instigate Hughes quitting, get snubbed by everyone and end up getting emboiled in a battle with BCity over their manager resigning and signing with Villa in 5 days, spurring graffiti (from Villa Supporters) that no blue scum are welcome at VP and fans threatening to cancel season tickets..you would have guessed right.

Saw an interesting article in NYT...remember Lerner also owns the Browns...how have their coach hires/searches gone? Maybe being the son of a multi-billionaire stifles your decision making capability a bit.

edit: do the schedulers try to balance the schedules out based on performance last year etc? The NFL has some methodology in their scheduling...curious if EPL has a strategy based on balance or travel or external tournaments etc?
Reason for asking...do they break up the top 5 so e.g. QPR doesn't play 3 of them in 4 weeks or is it just luck of the draw that makes a schedule 'fair'
