World Soccer XX: I paid Jack Warner $1M for the right to start this thread

I assume that the rule about being completely out of bounds on throw-in is more of a suggestion in this tournament. I've seen it 5 or 6 times this tourney, and on that last throw-in for Australia, her heels were on the line and her feet were all the way across the line.
Ball has to go completely over the line but when throwing it back as long as both feet are not on the field (and that means completely over the line) you're ok.

2-0 Sweden. Wonder if Pia still plans to sub out Wambach at half...

Abby finally scores, a header off a corner. 2-1 with ~20 mins left.

No heroics...the USA falls 2-1 to Sweden and will face Brazil Sunday morning. #1 vs #3 in the Quarters? That should be the final.

Julie Foudy is way too optimistic about this. They don't have a chance to "regroup" and learn from this loss, they play Brazil in the knockout stage next. At least Abby finally scored and got her groove back. And if they win, it's a cakewalk to the Final.

ESPN will be beside themselves if the US lose Sunday...they'll be broadcasting a tournament without their golden goose.

I closed out of it before copying the link but Wahl has a good article on SI.com regarding 3 things he thinks US needs to change by the Brazil match. I've watched the first two games and will watch today's when I get home, from my view Wahl is mostly correct in his diagnosis and suggested changes.

Respected African journalist Colin Udoh tweets that MLS will sign its first African DP next week. I can't think of anyone off the top of my head who really jumps out as an obvious possibility.

In other news, the Qatari World Cup keeps getting better:

Fifa could allow matches at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to be played over three 30-minute periods if temperatures in the stadiums became dangerously high for the players.

Pia gets axed if she loses to Brazil. Has to happen.

Maybe Sunil won't get that bailout from the women that he was counting on. :D

Oh look, the Red Bulls have an almost full starting XI! Three great goals so far tonight. Up 4-0.

TFC? Not very good, apparently.

5-0 final in New York. Lindpere with a goal and two assists. Agudelo with a garbage time brace.

Well, she could always say that BB lost to Brazil and he didn't get fired...

Men's and Women's NTs have different expectations. The Men getting to quarters and losing to Brazil would be acceptable and almost celebrated. However, the Women doing the same thing is unacceptable. It's championship game or bust for them.
