BTW, who does Sunil Gulati have to answer to? Anyone?

In addition to standing for election, his power within USSF is limited by the fact that he's an unpaid titular head, while the day-to-day operations of the organization are run by a paid staff. He almost certainly won't have the last say on anything involving spending money or certain areas of authority.

To me, the clear difference between Arena and Bradley is that there was unprecedented optimism leading up and going into Germany 2006. Right now, it seems we're at our lowest point since that World Cup. On those grounds alone, I think a change would warranted.

Plucky Argentina manage a 1-1 draw with powerful Bolivia in the Copa America opener.

Played at 20,000 feet?

No?

Argentina is hosting, so no.

Also, Heather O'Reilly just put the US up 1-0 against Colombia on an absolute laser, no male goalkeeper in the world saves that one, either.

With the US elimination from the confederations cup I was just thinking... is it even slightly possible for the US to stage its own friendly tournament in 2013 to serve as a way to bring in quality nations? Get the US, a couple of Euro teams, a SA team, a couple of african teams, and say a couple of Asian teams (I'm not being exact with the counts) and host a tournament in the US. Maybe this gets in the way of qualifiers, I don't know... but I would figure that if you marketed it right you could get good attendance figures.

How about an "English spoken here" tournament?

I caught about the first 20 minutes of that game on CBC before I had to get ready for work today. What did the final score end up being??

3-0. Could have been a whole lot more.

Funny.

Yeah, I have a feeling this referee won't be doing any more games at the World Cup. How do you miss that?

I saw it and still can't believe it. Though to be fair, the linesperson on that end had a rough day. How she did not hit the button on the flag and let the ref know over the mike is beyond me.

First eliminations from the 2014 World Cup today.

Malaysia beat Taiwan on away goals, 4-4. They will face Singapore.
Laos used extra time to eliminate Cambodia, 8-6. They will face China.
Philippines eliminated Sri Lanka 5-1. They will face Kuwait.
Vietnam crushed Macau 13-1 and will face Qatar.
Nepal beat Timor Leste 7-1 and will face Jordan.
Myanmar used a 2-0 win against Mongolia today to win 2-1 to face Oman.
Palestine is currently beating Afghanistan 1-0 (3-0), winner gets Thailand.
Pakistan-Bangladesh is later, Bangladesh leads 3-0, winner gets Lebanon.

Also, Bahamas won at the Turks & Caicos yesterday 4-0 in their first leg. Later today the US Virgin Islands host the British Virgin Islands in that first leg.

It's popular and he says "Born in the USA" 75 times...close enough :p

Ridiculous match in Utah tonight between New England and RSL. 3-2 in the 70th minute, both teams down to 10 men. Head scratching referee performance.
