World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

The ref just took that hook, line, sinker, bobber, reel, rod, and boat. What a TERRIBLE yellow card. TERRIBLE.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

So 1 yellow gets wiped between the QF and SF, but 2 yellows doesn't. Does that make sense to anybody?

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

You act as if FIFA enacts rules on a regular basis that actually make sense... ;)

It's sort of counter-intuitive, although thinking about it, I can see a red still causing a DQ so...

(I had thought the only whitewash was between the SF and F to make sure everybody plays. Which makes no sense to me since it changes the course of play of both the SF and F.)

I haven't really been paying attention but I have yet to see the ball in Ghana's offensive zone.

What would make more sense would be that if your team makes the semis, any yellows you're holding from the group stage are expunged. That would be more fair, but FIFA basically wants it so anyone who doesn't get a red in the semis is able to play in the final, unofficially, the Gazza Rule.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Harkes is such a dope. If we were out we wouldn't cheer for Canada? Maybe in hockey, but I don't have a problem rooting for any CONCACAF team on the big stage, save one major exception, and Canada ain't that exception.

No kidding. That caught me off guard. A strong CONCACAF only helps the US.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

A win by Ghana would secure them of the best finish by a team from Africa in WC history.

They've already tied the best finish coming into today's game with Senegal's magical run in 2002 where they reached the Quarters.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

I don't know why Ghana has to resort to such cowardly tactics. They are a very technically sound team.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

That's what I meant.

Point still remains.

I think you're making a different point than everyone else is though.

Your point is that the Ghanaian time wasting didn't cost the US the game - conceding early goals did.

Everyone else's point is that the Ghanaian players acted like bunch of C U Next Tuesday's once they took the lead.

I don't think you necessarily have to disagree with one in order to agree with the other.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

And this is why "if you're stretchered off you're done for the day" doesn't work. This guy here for Uruguay is clearly actually hurt, but if he recovers, why should he be forced to be done for the day?

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

COmmunist.

HOLY ****! Get the real stretcher! That was not pretty...

Inkoom was over there thinking... "this guy better get up, I didn't even touch him."

Exactly. And he's acting like no one is claiming the former and instead acting as though abnormal Ghanaian time wasting was why we lost. I don't believe anyone has.

Name one other sport that stretchers players off the field only to return. ONE.
