World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

I thought altidore dove more than Dempsey. As I told others elsewhere, though, on a scale of 1-10, the Americans are probably a 5 when it comes to diving. The Ghana team was a full fledged 10 by the end of that game.

I've never seen anyone, not even the Portuguese, dive to that extent. I've never seen someone dive, get stretchered off, and then take their sweet time getting off the field on a substitution. That's dedication to diving.

Looking forward to watching Uruguay crotch stomp them.

In their defense, I think if the USA scored in extra time first, they would done the same thing.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

To be fair, that "own goal" barely grazed him, and he's not the only one to blame for it.

The own goal decision was crap. Where's the Premiership Dubious Goals Committee when you need one?

Agreed. The Keeper flat out botched it.

The English FA has decided Capello will be allowed to stick around for 2 more years of failure.

Hmm you don't think England will be in Euro 2012?

Also, ok I was wrong. 2-1 Netherlands in regulation time!

No, no we wouldn't have. We'd milk the clock on throw-ins, set pieces, etc. and run the ball to the corner.

We would not have 3 guys on the ground in the prone position after not even being touched simply because our clearance didn't make it far enough. I've yet to see a U.S. player ever get on that **** stretcher unless they actually need it.

Oh, you wouldn't have done it to that ridiculous extent. But you would have still done a crap-ton of time wasting. Everyone would.

Yes, this. There are legitimate ways to waste clock.

You're confusing pronouns unless you've officially renounced your citizenship. I know your rooting preference is different but it seems like you don't want any association at all.

Sorry, I haven't renounced citizenship, I'm saying USA Soccer in that situation would have done the same thing.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

So, in case nobody noticed, the Dutch just knocked Brazil out of the World Cup. I'm thinking Felipe Melo isn't very popular in Brazil right now, after giving up an own goal and getting red carded. While Brazil are fun to watch, it's kind of nice that someone else will win it.

Now back to arguing hypotheticals where you really aren't far apart.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Also, time wasting != diving. diving is a form of time wasting, but not all time wasting is diving.

I said the U.S. wouldn't dive. You claimed otherwise.

Why wouldn't the team dive? Findley had some nice ones, as did Altidore, and Dempsey too. Not to the extent of Robben's ridiculousness, but they were definitely embellishing stuff in each of the 4 matches.

They wouldn't have gotten stretchered off, but I bet they would have milked even 50-50 chances.

So then you agree, they wouldn't have done the same things that Ghana did. Which is what I said the first time around.
