Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Someone should remind FIFA about the record attendence that the '94 World Cup got in the USA - and that was BEFORE the USA was respectable in soccer for the 2022 bids.
and before the tournament went to 32 teams...

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

The English media do have unfair expectations. I saw an article that said "If The Few Defended the way they did on Sunday, we'd all be Speaking German." Talk about pressure.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

"We have the thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat, and because we have soccer highlights, the sheer pointlessness of a 0-0 tie."

In soccer, the US can't send over reinforcements. England should be grateful that while sport can reflect real life, it isn't the same.

Maybe what they mean to say is, "our next coach will probably speak German".

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Have there been any atrocity missed calls this game? Has either team been significantly stronger?

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

It's fitting that the most exciting part of this game will be the eventual PK shootout. What an awful game. I root for either of these teams to get steamrolled in the next round.... Unless it's against Portugal.

Why? (I didn't watch.) Did they both just lay back and wait?

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Ah. It's true, as fun as great soccer is, bad soccer is liking waiting at the DMV.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

eh, i've seen more boring matches than this one. i would imagine spain/portugal winner won't have too much trouble reaching the semifinal.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

watching on univision but just heard them reference tom hanks in "a league of their own"

"there's no crying in baseball"

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Cool for Paraguay. They face a tough road of it though in their next match having to take on Spain or Portugal. Can't wait for that one. Should be a great way to end the first round of the knockout stage!
