World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

You can hold it against them if you want to, why not? There have been worse reasons as a neutral to root for or against a team.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

You may not admire it, but you don't have to hold them in contempt for it, either. It was a legitimate and smart professional foul.

I admitted at the time it was a smart move. Doesn't mean I have to like it.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

I guess my issue with Bob was him saying Suarez deserved some ridiculous ban...like five games maybe?

You are confused. I've never said anything about giving him a ridiculous ban of any sort.

that was JohnN that wanted an extended ban...honestly, I wouldn't have been opposed to him missing the final or 3rd place match for what he did...

I apologize.

As for the game, I think Holland needs to get Kuyt more involved. Good things have happened with his hard work.

Fair enough.

I think it was such a unique set of circumstances that it would be hard to change the rules to further discourage what happened, though my gut would like to. Given existing rules, a long ban can't be justified, as far as I know.

Still, go Dutch!

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

I see no reason to want Uruguay to lose simply because of the handball.

I do, however, see plenty of reason to want Uruguay to lose because it's ridiculous that such a mediocre team would go so far in the tourney.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Umm, guys, we had a goal.

Little controversial there.

Kind of looked like a hockey goal.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

I also noted at some point earlier that I like to root against Diego Forlan from his ManU days.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

They are from Holland!
They are going to World Cup Fijnal!
Isn't that vierd?

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Offsides is hard enough to get right. If I was in charge, as long as some part of you is level with some part of the defender...you're onside.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Seems like a really tight play on the offsides, that could have gone either way. Offsides can be one of the toughest calls out there.

Uruguay make it interesting with a second goal. I do admire their pluck! Still, go Dutch!

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Ref was very good for the first 70 and very poor for the last 20+his 6 added minutes or whatever he did.

And wasn't that a second yellow for Van Bommel and therefore a red??

What the heck?

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

You figure Germany would have the edge in a Germany-Holland final since Germany can always threaten to invade them for the billionth time.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

I thought Irmatov got the final timing pretty much spot on. I was worried he was going to blow it to a halt exactly at +3 when the first minute had been spent tending to van Bommel.
