World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Also, I like how it turned out with 3 Euro teams and 1 South American teams in the semis.

Suck on that, Euro-hater Lalas.

There are a lot of reasons to rip on Lalas. Accusing him of being a "euro-hater" certainly isn't one of them.

The fact that 3 of the semifinalists ended up being European doesn't diminish the fact that a good number of European teams completely embarrassed themselves in the group stages.

Its always fun when the big boys go down... its always fun to see the South American teams. That's all there is to it.

Italy, England, and France come to mind here.

Yeah, but my guess is he's too stupid to get the high end ones. He's got the cheap ones.
I'm sure his dealer/pimp is giving him the hook up for the high end ones. ;)

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Perhaps Portugal should have started some of these guys. :D

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Quite frankly, I have no problem with a ref that swallows the whistle. As long as he keeps it under control.

Completely agree. We don't need unnecessary fouls called and cards given out.

Speaking of Germany, I think pretty much everyone was wrong about them before this tournament started.

Not me. :p

I'm a top the group as I had Holland-England and Spain-Germany semifinals.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

USA-Algeria is on ESPN2 and in the 86th minute right now.

Ironically, if the refs hadn't blown two calls, Donovan's goal wouldn't have meant anything...

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

The little 'get on outta here' motion by the ref is rather entertaining.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Good thing Buddle didn't get a lot of time in Africa.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Really pains me to see Kasey Keller pick himself off the ground after a goal like that, on the 4th of July.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Irmatov of Uzbekistan and Kassai of Hungary are the two referees assigned for the semifinals.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

I finally picked up the book "Inverting the Pyramid" today. So far a pretty good read.

The earliest tactics (used lightly) are pretty funny by today's standards. For example the first International game played between Scotland and England. Here were the formations:

Scotland: 2-2-6
England: 1-2-7

Yep, 7 forwards. 4 on the left, 3 on the right. :D
It ended in a goaless draw.
