Qatar wins the bid. So does that mean everyone gets a free buletproof vest and gas mask? Also, I am so rooting for Israel to qualify that year. :D

Also, how does Obama get blamed for losing the bid? :D

Awesome. The technical report blasts Qatar's joke of a bid, but FIFA goes ahead and does it anyway.

Apparently Oil money is all it takes. Well we're a shoe in for 2026.

So is the U.S. the unofficial backup, as it was for south africa, if/when things go to hell in a handbasket?

Can't, unless they change the rules regarding continental rotation again. Supposedly the last 2 host conferedations are ineligible; so Asia and Europe are off the map.

Qatar kills their shot too, since it can't be in Asia two straight cups.

So, our team will be staying during this world cup on a carrier offshore, barring some sort of miraculous turnaround in the region?

This is fantastic.

A kleptocracy and a state that basically owes its existence to oil and only oil, exists in the middle of a war zone and where it's 120 degrees in the summer?

Down the road in Lausanne, Jacques Rogge is impressed. These guys make the IOC look like the Boy Scouts.

So, according to FIFA's own technical reports, the winners are two highest-risk bids in both 2018 and 2022 respectively. How about that.
