Costa Rica now has to go to El Salvador. I'm praying for the Salvies to at least get a draw. CR is in a total free fall right now that I hope continues through Nov. 14th.

In qualifying for the 1998 World Cup they did that. Usually had guys from South America for big games.

3-0. For their insolence, I agree with this and hope the Ticos crash and burn. But I'm not holding my breath. El Tri secures at least 4th with a win over Honduras on Wednesday, and it's at the Azteca, so... yeah. After that, they get T&T and El Salvador for the last two rounds, with El Salvador at the Azteca. They're going to run the table, they're going to get in. Damm you, Costa Rica. This is your fault.

We're probably going to have to beat up on T&T on Wednesday in order to make it official. Given that Honduras is probably going to lose, that'll put the US in 1st place with the next game at Honduras which is going to be a rough one given that they'll be fighting to stay out of 4th (the Top 4 will be set if the US and Costa Rica win on Wednesday) AND given the fact that we just cut all aid to Honduras last week. Bam ought to conditionally reinstate it if they agree to roll over for us.

Apparently the Honduran Ref had no idea why Alitdore's second goal was disallowed. I'm praying Gulati is on the phone with FIFA/CONCACAF to ensure this guy never referees our matches again. Seriously confer with your linesman before taking away a potentially qualification changing goal.

It should be noted that a pair of teams that played each other in Germany, Ghana and Brazil, have secured qualification for South Africa this weekend.

Some qualification scenarios I copied from BigSoccer:

Chile: need to defeat Brazil or draw against Brazil with Colombia not defeating Uruguay and Ecuador not defeating Bolivia.

Paraguay: need to defeat Argentina; or draw against Argentina with Colombia not defeating Uruguay and Ecuador not defeating Bolivia.

Denmark: need to defeat Albania, with Hungary losing to Portugal and Sweden losing or drawing Malta.

Spain: need to defeat Estonia with Bosnia not defeating Turkey; or need to draw against Estonia with Bosnia losing to Turkey

England: need to defeat Croatia; or draw Croatia with Ukraine losing or drawing to Belarus

Serbia: need to defeat France

England seems to be the most likely qualifier to me, while Denmark is least likely. Spain also seems to be a good possibility, while Serbia, Chile and Paraguay have tough matchups that they can win.

Well, if not a one-off, then another example of grossly uneven application of rules or lack thereof. Of course we have yet to see what if any reduction Chelski gets, but I won't assume that will happen, as you do. I can't believe I'm saying anything remotely defending Chelski, but these organizations really have to get their act together and either not have rules they selectively enforce or enforce the rules consistently.

Oh, and another week, another Wayne Rooney dive, but, I forgot, he's English, so by definition he doesn't dive.

I don't know, but I'm pulling for the Dutch. My Norwegians need all the help they can get!

Cameroon 2 - Gabon 1. Cameroon into first in the group.
Czech 7 - San Marino 0. Czechs still have to make up ground.
Armenia 2 - Belgium 1. What has happened to Belgium?
Faeroes 2 - Lithuania 1. The last time the Faeroes won a WCQ, the twin towers still stood.
Malta 0 - Sweden 1. Sweden's lone goal was a Maltese own goal in the 81st minute.

Northern Ireland - Slovakia on FSC right now.

Belarus 0 - Ukraine 0 FT.

A Ukraine win would have moved them (at least temporarily) into a tie for second with Croatia. Belarus now cannot pass Croatia for second and are officially eliminated.
