World Cup 2018: The best party money could buy (until 2022)!

Re: World Cup 2018: The best party money could buy (until 2022)!

Also, I should add, it’s more to do with lopsided foul counts. For example the count in Senegal - Poland was 13-7 yet Poland didn’t have a significant advantage in possession (54-46).

The PBP guy for the Colombia-Japan game...
please Fox, no mas.

Does the Colombian who got sent off now have to fear for his life when he returns home?

Because now you’re giving an advantage to the other team by holding that player off the field for nothing but an arbitrary reason. A player should be on the field playing not waiting for a perfect moment all because he got fouled.

The player entered with referees permission, he entered from the touchline, near midfield. I’m sorry, this is the World Cup, I would expect a team’s defense to be able to track a player waiting to come on standing at midfield.

Not to beat a dead horse, so I'll leave it be after this post.
I'm sorry, it's the World Cup, I would expect the referee to manage reentry better than that :p

An official should not be bringing a player back on directly behind the opposition's defense. It's a textbook reason as to why a player requires permission to reenter the field.
If players were permitted to reenter whenever they indicated they were ready, it would introduce yet another element of gamesmanship in regard to embellishment and feigning injury. And that is absolutely the last thing the game needs.
So yes, if you exit the field outside of the normal run of play, your team will be playing down a man until you are able to reasonably reenter the field. That shouldn't be at a time when you gain an advantage.

Can a referee choose to bring a player back on whenever they want? Yes, sure, but in certain situations (like the one we saw today) it is simply bad form.

I agree with that. That being said, things happen so fast that had the ref known that was gonna happen I doubt he would have waved the player on.

How are you supposed to determine which player?

If there are that many fouls, it is unlikely they have been committed evenly among all the players on the offending team. Most likely you are going to have 2-3 guys who have fouled a handful of times. So it is at the referee's discretion as to when it is time to issue a caution. Typically you are looking at 3+ or so by an individual player but that can be adjusted depending on the time span they are committed in, if they are creeping toward excessive in nature, if there have been multiple "professional" fouls, etc.

The only game where it has been really egregious was the Brasil-Swiss game where Neymar was fouled nearly every time he touched the ball. It became clearly 20 minutes in that fouling was the Swiss tactic for containing him, and at that point someone needed to be booked.

Possible, though not probable, that Spain and Portugal could be out by 4:00 today.

Edit: no it's not, I somehow thought Iran and Morocco had 3 points each.

Ronaldo 1 Morocco 0.

MLS ref Paul Geiger was in charge and did a good job.

My new goalie gloves were delivered today. Love the new fit. Always like Christmas getting a new pair.

These things feel to be worth every penny.

Time to retire the best gloves I ever wore. They were magnificent. Excited to try the new ones on Sunday.
