World Championships: U18 and Women’s

One would think the IIHF would have a team store or a team store link so someone could purchase some team specific gear. I am dying for a German Hockey jersey with the large eagle on it just like is being worn by the team now.

Agree 100%!!!

The Germany hockey site sells jerseys but yes none that look like current version that I see.

Im surprised there’s not poster sales on the team sites. Shouldnt every American little girl hockey player have a poster of the JLam shootout goal, or the 2017 Knight worlds OT celebration? Just seems like some low hanging fruit as a way to support girls in hockey.

US vs Hungary on now.

It is mind boggling to me how they cannot timely figure out who has the goals and assists in this tournament.

Regardless Knight broke the record with a one timer from the slot, assisted by Bilka probably Brandt too.

The other day I said Knights first worlds was ‘08, it was actually ‘07 and they did make her wear 16 for 2 years. The USA Hockey website lists her as a D for the 2008 worlds....there’s a what if. What if the US made Knight a defender?

Today feels like one of those celebratory days in women’s hockey...
Hungary in their first QF ever at Worlds
Knight breaking the all time points record moving past Wick’s 86.
Most recent Patty Kaz winner putting up a hat trick.
Frankel, part of the core that elevated NU to new heights finally got in the crease, even if not the start.
The Athletic kicking off the day with a long read on Mikkelson, something unheard of for women’s hockey just a couple years ago.

As always Sami Jo Small calls it what is: a privilege to get watch the history unfold.

Awesome to see Czechia in the semi but we are already in a 6-0 game after one period.

Knight with 2 goals in the game. The Bilka Knight chemistry keeps growing. Another Heise goal, Scamurra got one, Compher got one.... but I think Kessel narrowly scoring on a deke was my fave of the first.

Canada looked frustrated against Sweden in the quarter. Time is running out to get the scoring going.

The question seems obvious now after her Kazmaier season and this tournament...How was Heise not on the US Olympic team?

I see what you’re saying. She is a great player, you can see it by watching the games. Incredibly smart on the ice, always moving. But NCAA aside, there shouldn’t be so much attention paid to stats (both USA and CAN) when you’re crushing teams by an 8 or 9 goal differential.

Her 16 points in the 20-game Covid season didn't scream "gotta find a spot for her!" Even last season against the top opponents, she wasn't always consistent. She' have a dominant period in a lot of the games, and then the level would drop. Some games, that stretch was enough to win the game, and sometimes, it wasn't. Zum had the same issue, but she had the big shot and the ability to drive to the net that work well at the next level. I think Heise has the chance to be a more complete player, if she can put it all together.

It's funny how it works out in the international game. People like Cameranesi and Pannek have been more effective for Team USA than Brandt, although the latter had a far better NCAA career.

It would be nice if there was a tool to filter down a players results to how they did against a specific team.

Japan knocks off Finland in the 5th place game 1-0 (penalties) and takes the final Group A slot.

Finland is "relegated" to Group B.

New broadcasting proposal: show the group B games and the games where Canada USa play each other.

this bronze game is great! 2-1 Czechia late in the first.

Apparently, this is not true.

Seedings are done by world rankings, not one tournament's results. Finland will remain in Group A.

check Nicole Haase’s Twitter feed on this. Seems like there are a lot of questions about this. IIHF changing rules mid tourney or something.

Finland is now remaining in group A, not contradicting that, just noting the IIHF apparently doesn’t know their own
rules or something

Congrats to Canada.

There was a play late in the third where Knight had a rebound backhand she didn’t finish and I thought, geez she doesn’t usually miss those.

On the replay though, it was clear Desbiens had got herself over there to make a play. It was foreshadowing of how Debiens would finish the game, guiding Canada to gold. She was amazing, despite a low shooting game.

Can’t wait to hear where in Canada the next worlds will be. Fingers crossed for Southern Ontario. :-)

Next thing to watch for is what both programs do with their contracts with the players. Cheering for all the women - they are amazing and critical to the growth of the women’s game.

My take is that she was a pretty good player before they selected that team and then as we occasionally see happen, over the last couple of years she got a lot better.

Super shocking Japan beat Finland and the Czechia beat the Swiss. This is crazy talk; really unthinkable that Japan and Czechia can beat the northern European trio.

To think Canada kicked ARD to the curb. Watts a stupid deal, they don't deserve her.

I think MacLeod has to be in the discussion for a D1 coaching gig in the future.
