World Championships: U18 and Women’s

Not over the impressed with Canada.. Kind of reminded me of a WI team where they get a lot of shots but the goalie was always squared up to them.

I want to be optimistic but they also lost 4-1 in a shootout against US last week. Plus the regulation loss against the US the same night.

Anyway, it’s early and we’ll see.
....
Its a shame Jade Iginla is out for the tourney. I thought it was cool she’s going to Brown University, a school that hasn’t gotten many top tier players of late. Because of the nature of the way women’s sports coverage works, she was the only familiar name to me lol.

When are these players going off to college? This fall for the most part?

... and speaking of the last time I was in LaBahn, I think that brat I just ate has been in the steam table since then. Yikes, it was not good!

I'm ready for a little bit of wood shed action on the Swedish team tonight. No mercy. Let's go RED! White! Blue!

Frosty is sitting next to me....I'm in awe...lol

And probably shaking in his boots at all the talent Wisconsin will have in the next few years. 7 of Team USA will be Badgers including Laila Edwards and Cassie Hall who have accounted for all 3 goals so far.

Yes. They look great.

It’s disappointing seeing all the empty seats. especially at the USA-Sweden game.

Yes. Though there are many more people on the press box side of the ice, so it may be deceiving how many people are here on the video stream. US friends and family on this side of the ice, apparently.

There was actually 3 coaches next to me, Frosty, the PSU guy and a lady without any insignia. They all left, I think I was being too loud. Too many comments to my daughter about all the Badgers scoring. Smiley face.

That was quite the penalty kill by the US, dominating possession and scoring a goal eventually. Sweden is the country that wants to add hitting to the IIHF game, partly in hopes it will narrow the gap.

5-0 US and they are back on the pk, which shouldn’t slow them down .

US was playing at a different level than the other three. If they others made me think of a JV team, US was playing full varsity. (Appropriate for the building - U-Wisconsin joke there). Attempting many cross-ice tic-tac-toe passes; not connecting on many but at least playing at a more 'sophisticated' level that they're attempting them. And cycling the puck more, and killing penalties more intelligently, etc.

Tomorrow will be fun to see how that goes against the solid defense and goal-tending of Finland. Sweden had some good one-time shots of the pass in the first period, and then stopped; particularly when on the PP, when one-timers might have been effective. I think there's a decent chance Sweden can give Canada a game,

On the other hand, Frost was recruiting off of actual Olympic teams.

Yes, fascinated to see Finland US today. I wish I could get to the Canada Sweden game but it's not going to happen. Canada must be PO'ed and I think they will take it out on the Swedes if the talent is really there. Finland looked like a more complete cohesive team yesterday.

One of the more impressive bits for the US last night was a pass across the crease from Maggie Scannell to Josie St Cloud, who knocked it in for a goal.

Both player only 16, and as far as I know not yet committed to a college program (their 'window' opens June 15?).

I hope they're enjoying their stay in Madison. :-)

More of the same as last night, the US team is just playing at a different level than the others. Finland hung tough, and the final score doesn't reflect that. But US is at a different level.

I think the team was a bit peeved when Finland called a timeout with the game mostly out-of-reach. Two quick goals resulted. The future Badgers all looked good (or better-than-good!). Timothy A, did the Colgate coach mention Dara Grieg?
